I like to go to BF and read very specific sections, but I don't post very much. The thing that really bugs me about that place is that nobody seems to care about really listening to your question, and there is a lot of armchair QB'ing going on. For example, someone will ask a very generic question like "What ist he best hunting knife?" Everybody and their brother will come back in reply with whatever the lastest thing they just bought (and probably never used) just to make a recommendation. Instead, I am thinking stuff like what are you hunting? Where are you hunting? etc, etc, etc. If you actually try to ask more questions like that, that could help people make a better recommendation, instead of random stuff, everyone ignores it and keeps on going with the random suggestions. Without understanding the situation they truely are random. Do you know what I mean?

ditto! There's only one real forum that I ever really read with any frequency and that's the wilderness survival forum. And even then I take most of what is posted with a grain of salt.

One other point. If I ever find myself in a "wilderness and survival" setting and I have to rely on a knife to save my life, I pray to God the knife I have with me is manufactured by someone whose last name is Busse.

That's easy....surround yourself with them....2 on your person, 2 in your vehicle, 2 in a backpack.....2 at your work.....2 stashed in a secret location in the cities you most frequent.....2 more in the wilderness hidden in a pine tree and guarded by a rabid squirell with Ebola......or just carry one with you at all times

What's really important to you? The fit, precision, and finish are not as good on my dogfather as they might be on a Busse. On my dogfather the angles on the tip aren't quite symetric, the edge on the hump on the spine ins't quite perpendicular, and I've got what looks like two starfish patterns and a minoura on the coating. And if I really didn't look hard enough I wouldn't fing these very slight imperfections. Whoopty freakin do!

These scrapyard knives will easily do 95% in not more of what a similar sized Busse, or Swamp Rat will do at well under half the cost with darn near the same warranty. Scrapyard will always have its detractors, those who feel threatened, or those who feel jealous, or who feel that by not buying into them sets them apart, or those who are loyal to another brand, or what ever. Who cares! If you feel like you got a good deal and your pleased that's enough for me.

You know with BF I take what I want from it, and leave the rest. I am a regular there, and there are some good folks there, who DO want to help out. And yes, there are the trolls/tools, whatever you want to call 'em. I take the good, and leave the BS.

TKC - I would say that you have the right attitude! I only check out BF on rare occasions, usually because someone had provided a link to a specific subject. On any forum you will have good and bad, and I choose to avoid those will a lot of Bravo Sierra. This is the reason that I love the Scrap Yard forum; it's hosted by a great company and frequented by a lot of terrific folks. Disagreements are handled in a civilized manner, and people are not afraid to speak their minds without being "flamed". This is a great place! BF is a good place if you use it right - kind of a stepping stone. Afterall, I only made it to This forum and became a Scrapyard owner through my "research" on BF - but there Are a ton of trolls over there, as well as a bunch of people that are ready and willing to give poor advice. BUT, there's Cobalt's Avatar. And, there's the Busse forum as well. But it sure ain't the 'Yard!
