If the DFLE is so tough and indestructible, why is it that people feel the need to purchase more than one (some as many as 4).
Or are they purchasing several purely for resale on the secondary market down the road at a marked-up price?
If this is the case, I think that sales should be restricted to one knife per person. A company like Randall has had to do this as well, for the same reason...
IMO it's not fair or right that people buy up all available stocks and then re-sell them later at a profit. I don't think its any secret that this practice happens a lot with Busse/SR/SY products.
Just look at how many turn up on the BF Exchange 'brand new and unused'.
I realise this post will not make me popular but I feel it needs to be said. This is not sour grapes, the knife is still available in the store (miracle!) but I don't have the cash right now.
I can bet they'll be all gone by tomorrow though.... and before long they'll be turning up on the Exchange for around $250, maybe more. A tidy little profit for very little work.
Sorry, I think its wrong.

Buffalohump,
Instead of just repeatedly saying you think it's wrong, not right, unfair, could you explain precisely what you think is wrong with it? I see nothing wrong with it at all.

I am fairly new to the game, however this is the way the game is played. If you happen to make it to Walmart the day the "hot toy" is released are you only restricted to buy one? It is free enterprise and part of what makes our country what it is. I am not one of the people buying more than one, however if I had the money I would. Just like buying property, it is an investment.

I'm not going to touch this one even if I were able to use somebody else's pole. On the other hand, it would be interesting to have each of us try to argue in support of the other position... we might just learn something.

Buying strictly for resale is not something that I support, but there's nothing that can be done about it.
Getting a couple or three or ten as gifts or to collect, or whatever, doesn't bother me.
Having a "user" and a "safe queen" seems very reasonable.
I would rather see them stay in the store than be snatched up and resold at a huge profit, though. If I could afford to get 5 DFLE's, I would. But, I can't. Well, I could, but I wouldn't ever buy them simply to resell. I will be getting a couple more (3-4) CG's when they come out - and setting them aside for my kids, possibly give one to my brother.
Fortunately, anyone who wanted a DFLE tonight got one. If they would have been gone in five minutes due to the "flippers," I would have been upset. But... I'd rather see Dan be able to unload everything he has, have his sales goals met and overhead reduced, and get started on something new for us. So... SOMEONE BUY UP THE REST OF THOSE DFLE'S!!!!

I have bought up to five of a certain run before, but I've always either given them away(1), sold them at original cost(2), or traded them for a like priced item(1). I've only made a profit on one Busse knife and that was an HRLM. I bought two, one for myself and the other to send out for a sheath. I made $20 on it.
It's not like we don't know they are coming. Save for the amount of knives you want. Scrapyards are not Busse Combat, you won't need thousands of dollars to get 2-4 of them.
If you can't afford it today or tomorrow, what makes you think it still wouldn't sell out after a day or two if everyone was limited to one each?

I bought an extra one in case a fellow Dog did not have the cash to spend on one now and might later when the DFLEs are no longer available. I will sell it to him for exactly what I paid for it (KNIFE, SHIPPING COST AND UNFORTUNATELY TAX SINCE I LIVE IN TX), plus the actual shipping cost to him or her. The tax and extra shipping make it a little more to get it this way but it's better than what many of the secondary market prices will be then. 179.95 + 14.95 shipping = $194.90 store cost. And + $14.95 tax for me = $210.00 my cost. Then add 8-10 dollars shipping to the Dog being "helped out" and it's right at $220.00! All the added costs of doing business immediately drive up the price of any knife that is hard to get. $179.95 sounds great but don’t forget it costs $40.00 more to do some one a favor AT COST (in TX anyway – that darn tax!).
If you decide to get one later when times are better on your budget, send me a PM and if I still have an extra, I would be more than happy to help out!

Thanks for the offer <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
I don't for a minute think that EVERYONE who buys more than one knife is buying purely for resale, but its happening for sure and it really runs contrary to my almost always positive experiences with the knife community.
The DFLE is not really the knife I am after right now, but if your product is so hard to get that prices on the secondary market are almost always more than the original product, then something is not right. This is, after all, a production knife company, not a one man shop.
The DM, for example, is listed as $70 in the shop. I have yet to see one sell for under $100 on the Exchange. The cheapest one I have seen went for $110.
I purely wish that SY and associated companies would crank up the production a bit. If I could get a DM for $70 plus shipping, I'd have one now, but I don't like the thought that I'm having to cough up extra just because I wasn't in the right place at the right time, financially and physically.
I just want to add I am NOT here to stir up trouble but as someone who has become aware of Busse family products just recently, I have something of an outsiders perspective on company, and it is a bit different, let's say, to other companies.
I would like someone to explain to me why it is that items in the line-up are not always available? Its a bit of puzzle to me to be honest.
Mark

People are buying them purely to re-sell at a profit, making an already scarce item even scarcer and more expensive. If you can't see something wrong with that, I'm not sure I can really explain much further. Mark Buffalohump,
Instead of just repeatedly saying you think it's wrong, not right, unfair, could you explain precisely what you think is wrong with it? I see nothing wrong with it at all.

Buffalohump I know where your coming from, but whats stopping them from doing it? So you can just buy one? Thats not fair to me or anyone else, christmas is coming what if I wanted to buy 2 or 3 as gifts?
I am not nieve enough to think that everyone is doing that of course not, but many DO in fact buy two so that later on if someone needs one they can sell it to them. I have had it happen for me. There is no perfect system here and some are always going to take advantage because they have the $$ to do so. Its not there fault they can afford 5 of them, but of course I dont agree that they should be reselling them at a profit either...but if they can who am I to say they cant.

i think mulitple purchases might bother me if all the DFLE's sold out in the first 15 minutes. But here we are 12+ hours later and they are still available. I would say that's more than enough time for any motivated buyer to pick one up regardless of your time zone or work schedule.
