That is a great pic! I like the heat treat on that, what is it spring steel?

He will be a great collector and user when he becomes of age. He already has a head start!

Looks like SR77 to me - there's only one other time I've seen a blade bent in half that didn't break! Its the new Scrapper Sword prototype...

If anything, when I kick the bucket - my boys will each have 1/2 of a pretty decent collection to start out with! I've started out small w/ knives that I've set aside for them. Victorinox Bambinos while they're little kids, then I have a "My First Victorinox" model SAK for each of them, Vic Soldiers from their birth years, then a Mutt for each of them (who wants the one that dad already beat up!?!?), a DF and DFLE (but will be getting each of them a minty DF when they come back again), and then I guess the list goes on!

I remember my grandfather gave me my first blade ... i must have been about 5 .... he was never the most responsible man (helping me catch scoprions at about that age as well, and not the kind with the big pincher's ) ... haha ... which made me like him even more. It was a folder that looked like a buck blade, with the wooden handle and the gold edges (not sure what it was though). My folks snatched it out of my hands and hid it from me immediately for "when i was older". It took me over a week to dig that blade out of the cupboard it was hiding in, after i went through the entire house top to bottom like a child possessed (warning to diceman here to lock those babies up) .... and only about 3 minutes to almost hack my thumb off. I imediately did what any responisble kid of that age would do ... and hid in the best place i could find to avoid the lashing which, as far as i could tell, was unavoidable ...... by the time my hysterical folks found me after seeing all the blood in the house, they were just so happy i was alive i did not get the lashing .... but never saw that blade again ....

sorry ... off topic ... but that's what came to mind when i was reading this thread. I always remember that story with a smile ...

Good story Void!

I got my first knife at age 5 as well. It was a little slip joint and my dad practically removed the edge from it, but it was still cool!

i remember getting the little leatherette pack of the fingernail pics and little "knife" with a dull blade and fingernail file. I thought it was the coolest ever.

Sad to say most of the stupid/funny things I did with knives were quite recent not when I was a kid

I did get my Mom a beautiful leather wrapped thrower for Mothers day once at about 12.

I had my first cub scout folder at Sunday school and was showing my best friend who was suitably impressed. He was a bit of a ham so put his hands up like I was robbing him at knife point and I made a mean face and said something in character and right then the Deacon walked around the corner.

Long story short I did not have to go to Sunday school anymore.

The Lansky sharpening clamp seems perfectly designed to stick the point of the knife your working on into your butt if you happen to sit on it.

Mag - I think it would be irresponsible of me to get my 2 year old a sword such as that...

Cute pics of Jordan, Dan. He's a man after my own heart, i.e., running around the house in my briefs stabbing stuff. Boy, I bet that conjures up frightening images.

Bill, that image is kinda scary sounding.

You don't own any hockey masks or scary halloween masks, do you?

Hey Bill - I'm w/ Jeff on this one! A little scary... but don't let that stop you from posting pix if you've already taken some!

Far be it from me to post tasteless pics on the forums.

I'm a PINNACLE of responsibility! Or not..... Well, I AM with the kids, just not with my spending habits! If I ordered him an HI, then I'd need one for myself too! (that is an HI right?)

Noooo you wouldn't be irresponsible you would be responsibly looking out for your son, because your buying it "now" because the price will be alot more and it may not be offered by the time he is old enough for it.
And you want to make sure it's safe for him........

LOL

JYD#14 Do you need one, of course you do it's a knife and you like knives.....
