Tom,

I actually "JUST" saw your post over on the Busse forum and just saw where Jerry sent you here.

From you pictures, it looks to me to have been an air bubble/pocket near the edge.

There was a similar occurance to this a few weeks back.

See: Dogfather ding

Unfortunately, this is very hard to notice on a blade until it shows up. If they don't find it while grinding, then.... ?

The first one seemed like a pretty big anomoly. Two is not good to see - at all.
It looks like (I assume) Dan and Jerry might need to have a talk with whomever is providing SR77 bar stock.

I saw your thread showing where you obviously put a LOT of effort into getting that knife to a nice finish. THAT SUCKS the most!

Maybe Dan will replace yours with an LE - not for me to say. But, I feel for your efforts.

.

I'm not at all upset. I have 2 LE's on the way right now. I offered to pay the difference to get an LE for a replacement. I was sick at home when i polished the Dead Dog, and I really don't see myself doing that again for a while!

they were probably right next to each other on the production line.

i can't believe what a terrible product this is. i'm never buying another busse clan knife and i encourage all other owners to dispose of their current collections. i'm offering free knife disposal service for the next few weeks, you just pay shipping. after that i'll have to charge you guys labor so take advantage of this limited time offer and get that infi, sr101, and sr77 out the door. act now!

I also think it was an impurity in the steel. It is a good reason to consider Crucibles version of S7 as their powder metallurgy is supposed to stop exactly this type of thing. It makes me wonder how many knives are out there that have the same defect but have not been used heavily enough to find it?

It is another reason to give your knives a serious work out.

I am sure all knife companies have these issues but I don't know many that will replace a second hand modded and polished blade.

Dead Dogfather!!

No worries, It appears that we must have had one bad plate of steel with air pockets that were nearly dead center in the steel. . . No one's fault except for the steel mill who let it pass. . .

Your knife is covered by the bullet proof Scrap Yard warranty, eventhough it is second hand and modified I will replace it...send it in

Dan

Not worried, thank you, Dan. I appreciate it. I thought it was about as likely as a lightning strike on the big toe. That's really why I posted it. Before it happened, it was an unimaginable occurrence!
