nope, leather is needed with satin finished blades
leather works better in cold climates
leather is also quieter
but kydex is better in wet climates
it is also more durable and stab resistant
you should never store your knife in the sheath though

hes talking about storing the knife though, not carrying it, kydex is only bad for satin because it scratches the knife, but you really have to be moving the knife in the sheath to scratch it.

Leather IS bad to store the blade in as it can hold moisture against the blade. I am not sure about the tanning agents in the leather however I doubt they can be good.

Good habit is to wipe your blades down and store outside the sheath anyways. I prefer leather sheaths, however I do not store any blades in them. I also wipe all edges and exposed metal on them down with a metal protector/rust inhibitor.

I always kept my CG DF in leather - and it has many naked spots - but my blades are constantly wiped down w/ Tuf Cloth. I will NOT be storing my DFLE in leather, though - everything I've ever read said not to store knives, particularly satin, in leather. So I just stick by that!

WD - the knife is already covered in wrapping paper... we'll have to wait about 2.5 months for new pix from a 26 year old Diceman!!

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;

except Diceman hidden so tiny, unwrapping the shiny!"

OK - I took two quick pix before she got packed away and wrapped in paper for my Birthday, which is Feb 26. Gonna be a long wait.

The 1st Position sheath Rocks. Really, it does. Looking forward to seeing how it wears on the handle - no sharp edges, but a tight fit. What kind of lube should I use on it? The KY didn't really work. And I don't want to use something that will end up eating the rubber. Thanks guys!

DAN - she's BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!! I'm SO glad I ended up getting one.
