J33psr0ck:

By law, when you are off work to serve Jury duty your employer must pay you the difference between the Jury pay and your normal wages. ie, they are supposed to give you normal wages less the Jury pay. If your employer balks at this, just report it to the judge.

I served on my county's Grand Jury for a period of one year. We had to go in occasionally and listen to the facts of a few hundred cases and determine whether the prosecutors had enough evidence to carry to court, and vote to that effect. I found it to be quite fascinating, actually. Grand Jurors get to hear the details of things going on in the community that normally aren't heard about.

It looks like Unsub hit the topic before I found it.

I would implore you to take part in this - do your best to get ON the jury, even if it means 'saying what they want to hear'. Not outright lying, I'm not advocating falsifying anything, but 'spinning' answers such that you'll look perfectly 'cardboard' to both the prossecutor and the defense attorney.

With great liberties come great responsibilities - this isn't called a 'civic duty' because it's recreation, it's part of the responsibility that comes with the liberty.

But long before you head there, take a look at FIJA.org - the Fully Informed Jurists Association. They'll explain in detail our history and what your RIGHTS as a jurist are.

Me? I get called infrequently, and never selected. This last time I was the next to last 'let go'. If you don't take up the mantle of a responsible citizen that cares, then the government has selected (yes, I'll openly call it 'jury stacking') these 'cardboard people' in order to provide a convenient rubber stamp for their own pre-drawn conclusions...

The square of Liberty is divided into 4 equal boxes. The soap box (what I'm doing now), the ballot box, THE JURY BOX, and of course the cartridge box. Owning a rifle doesn't make one a marksman in the same way that being a citizen doesn't make one a proper jurist - and they DO have the same role in maintaining our liberty!

Wear a Metallica "Ride the lightning" T-shirt if you want to get off.

Good luck, SS.

I've served Federal duty and County Grand jury duty.

I found the experiences to be interesting and educational.

Made me feel good that I'd served and done my duty too.

Well said Bravo762 - I salute you!

I have only served on one jury, and it was a very boring case. However, it helped contain a "frivolous" lawsuit, and I was ultimately glad that I was on the jury. If we don't do our part when called upon, then we are part of the problem - not the solution. Tom

I got a jury notice a few years ago, and was disappointed when they didn’t keep me. I wanted to be one of the few that know the Constitution, and how it was intended on interpretation. If you don’t have one, get one of these:
(especially if you’re gonna be a juror)

Another good one I have (though not here for a pic) is Gran'pa Jack #2 - Can You Get a Fair Trial in America? by Jews for the Preservation of Firearms. Check their freebies page for nice handbills you can print out and put up in public places.

I have gone to Jury Duty on a handful of occasions. Lawyers don't like me I guess, I never get picked which may not be a bad thing.

If I have to go to one of the Q&A sessions my goal will be to make them not like me. I have better things to do.

I just went through this a couple of months ago. It really has nothing to do with liking you or not. It is all about how you answer the questions. I was not picked because I could not agree to a potential sentence of probation if the individual was found guilty...oh yea the crime was 8 felony counts of sexual abuse to a child. They pushed hard and I finally said I could agree to sentence of probation only after they skinned the SOB alive and rolled him in salt. I guess they didn't like me after all.

If you are picked, consider it a privilege to play an active roll in our great democracy.

Too bad they didn't pick you, your idea seems fair.

I am disappointed at your leniency Dan.

Everyone knows that rolling in salt results in less than optimum coverage. A more practical solution involves a tub and several drums of vinegar.
