there has been alot of talk about a busse khukuri. it would seem S7 would be the perfect steel. incredibly strong and much cheaper than infi. it also is more resistant to rust than 5160. the res c handle would be nice for the heavy chopping. i would lile it 3/8 thick by 16 1/2 to 18 inches long but i was hoping everybody would suggest what would be a good size

3/8 thick??? You can carry mine up the mountains! 1/4 would do just fine imho. 15" is a good manageable length in a chopper (thinking of my Tram' Bolo)

paul, i have around 20 khuks and the thick ones just chop better. i do carry a 3/8 khuk when in the mountains. i would settle for ffbm thickness though <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
i do see your point of view and think most would agree with you. please post what size would be best

I went with 16.5". I have a 15" AK from Himilayan Imports that I love. The extra 1.5" would make it all that much sweeter for chopping.

When I first began buying khuks, I found the the length to be deceptive. For most knives, length refers to blade length, but length is typically the overall length in khukris. British issue khukris are 15-inch; I'd probably go for a 16.5" version if it's a broad blade, possibly up to a 20" if it's narrow. My limited experience is that that more narrow-bladed styles with a less pronounced curvature are less prone to binding in the sheath, and therefore draw more smoothly.

I'd prefer it to be a little longer and narrower than you typical Kukri, so I said 18. Having said that, a 3/8 thick blade would be too thick for that. 1/4 would probably be better for this version.
My second choice would be a 15 inch wide bladed Kukri and 3/8 would be okay as long as it's a full grind.

I don't really care for the idea of a Kukri, I'd rather see the Yard bring out a version of the Parang especially if it was cose to this design by former SAS soldier and writer of the SAS Survival guide , Lofty Wiseman.... ![[Linked Image from i129.photobucket.com]](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p236/denaleeguy/tool15small.jpg)

if its going to be really long, I wouldn't want it too thick, I voted 16.5 and that would be good at about 3/8th inches thick.

Pitman, I like those too but they are 440A (boo!) and I could never narrow down what the warranty was... (more boo!!) Now a Dan version... that WOULD be good!
