i have a ANDY WAYNE cardboard sheath & it is well built

Yep, you’re one of the few who do. Although actually yours isn’t cardboard. It’s the better quality corrugated plastic I ripped off a phone pole.

but does yours come out of the sheath when turned upside down?

Nope. As Vance said, it’s custom made by tracing the knife. It’s an exact fit, just as a quality leather one is. Here’s a pic showing it “cut to shape”. As you can see, it would only fit in one way. With time though, if you use it a lot, the tape stretches a bit, THEN it will fall out upside down. It doesn’t bother me though, it’s secure enough for use around the yard. I don’t plan on being upside down, and if I am, where my knife is will be the least of my troubles. My original sheath you see there for the RM is still going strong with no repairs needed. I’ve used it for 2-3 years now. Kinda funny that it’s for my most valuable knife, a $350ish RM that I still don’t have a proper sheath for.

the yard has the resources, in its people, to create its own elite private society. i say we pool funds, buy an area in the woods, develop on our own, and fence out the world.

I always thought that’d be cool too. If we all lived together in one giant gun/knife/outdoors community.

so I over did it a little with the duct tape and the cardboard sleeves that my scrapyards came in and decided to do a piggy back "sheath", where I could attatch my yardkeeper if i needed too.

here it is folks... complete with intergrated knife falling out of cardbaord sleeve stopper... I have a patent on this so watch out!

this is one of my quailty pieces of practical craftsmanship and design.
(watchout jeff and dave!)

and so here is how you detach the yardkeeper.

tada!

the fruits of my labor... my roll of duct tape is slimmed downa bit after this.

Well done.

Has anyone ever noticed that a sheath has never been made of strapping tape(packing tape)at least not to my knowledge.

Not a challenge...just an observation

Dan

you know how your main users kind of force lesser users into safe queen status, though you don't consider them such?

gotta feelin, community wide, mine would be those. i'd end up playin guitar while the rest of you chop. couple guys would handle the grill all the time, so theirs would too. couple pyros keepin the bonfire high and hot, them too.

I'm just kidding. Though this was fun to make. I'm gonna keep it knowing that when I buy more FBMs they won't come with sheaths and I'm gonna have to get a custom one. Decent temporary sheath.

Funny enough though, I actually did take the sheath out for a hike. This was the winter hike in the Gorge, if anyone remembers . It held up well.

fun to make but should never be a replacement for a fine quality custom rig from Rainwalker. You wouldn't buy a new corvette and then put used tires you found along the side of the road on it would you?
