From the looks of that blade, it doesn't appear to have been used....thats blade abuse! I am calling Eric!

seriously, dude, that better be an old pic from when you first got it, or i will have to confiscate it. there's a statute of limitations on blade coatings...

Yeah, that’s when I first got it. I try to be careful with it and not beat on it too much (my only one that I’m careful with) because it’s my EDC and I want it to looks nice and not too beat up. Especially since I show it off to people to advertise for the Swamp. And it’s the old logo style that I prefer. It’s not mint, I’ve used it a few times splitting fatwood and it scared up the crinkle coat some. The rest of my Rats though, I beat on with no mercy!

dang Andy, how many howlers do you have??!! ever hear of SHARING? you could sell me one, and still have one for each hand. hmmm? something to think about, ya?

Actually, I only have one. The last time I went to the 1500 I bought a couple extra, (you’ve probably seen the pics) but I eBayed them for more knife money shortly after I got them. Here's a pic of my current total collection.

I never heard of anyone wearing a phonebook for protection...how about a more realistic test?

If you’d like. I just meant that as a test that could easily be replicated by people in their own home to show how a pointy-er knife will get better penetration.

[I wouldn't even say it is a good test..unless you are being tested on how deep you can stab a phone book....I have 2 RD9s, 1 old style and 1 new full flat grind...the new one whittles through wood like it wasn't even there, but that old style hacks apart bone and flesh (deer, and cow ribs) MUCH more effectively.
REALLY... interesting -- i have always lusted after those older hollow-ground Rangers... wait a minute -- how do you know how well it hacks up flesh and bone?? (

We need a 5/16" (or thicker) SR-77 BOWIE!!! (Written back in early '07 -- Regulator Premonition?)

that's a good point, if you are up against someone who has a good working knowledge of gross anatomy, mechanical and vascular targets, clothing is probably a lot less of an issue...

Yep. The military's hand-to-hand combat books have a lot of info on knife fighting as well.

great idea, in terms of actual testing -- i have shot a thawed turkey with a handgun, but i never made the leap to knife testing... great quote about the Dr. and the priest... classic...

You'll probably want to wear old clothes when doing it. *Splatter*

You call it splatter...I call it character....or at least a conversation starter...nothing is more appealing to college girls than large knives and blood stained clothes....

Take a drive in the country. Another tip, if you don't want to have to go to the extra trouble of finding a fresh one, wait until its below freezing. When they're hit, they're frozen solid, so they don't rot. That's what I did when I was a kid in 4-H doing hide tanning. All my neighbors gathered frozen roadkill for me in the winter. Just gotta warm em up until they thaw and you're good to go. Just don't try to defrost them in the microwave. lol.

Just add a "scream" or hockey mask, and you're good to go.
