The Yard Keeper CG is my first CG blade from Scrap Yard. All other knives have been LE models. Let me start off by stating that the knife seems ideal for my everyday outdoor needs. I think my Rat Cutlery RC-3 may see limited use now. I do have a question about the fit and finish of the CG configured knives.

My Keeper has a gap on one side where the blade enters the handle. I am able to stick a toothpick over 1/4” into this gap. The handle/blade fitting of my LE blades seems flawless. I would not be that concerned if the Keeper had a stainless blade. The coating should inhibit rust, but over time, I think the coating will wear.

Do the CG knives typically have finish problems like this?

Oh, I am unable to take a decent photo to post.

I didn't want to be a pain in the arse, but my YKCG also has a gap as you describe. I have been contemplating for days since receiving it whether to send it back for handle re-fit or just make do and let their guarantee take care of any future problems. But, every time I look at it, it bugs me. It's not right. I want it to be right.

Ya know? Well, at least I'm not alone in my feelings about the handle issue.

Inspector 47 are you reading this?

I'd email Patti about the handle problem.. If moisture gets into the handle and attacks the tang it's a failure in the making (but it may well last till your grandkids before it rots through!). It may be that fault overlies other tang/handle junction issues..

I wasn't personally able to get a YKCG, I was away from my computer when it all went down way faster than expected. When I came back to order they were gone.

Tough knives or not, I have a little issue with expecting a certain minimum amount of quality control and aesthetics in my knives. I don't know what the gap looks like, but I could see being bothered by such a gap.

The YKCG was arguably a good price. But, not so cheap that I would easily blow off a basic proper fit of a handle.

.... No disrespect to the earned respect for Ranger knives and their performance "abilities", but unless Jason has made some significant changes is his finish quality, the Ranger blades I have seen/handled were not so finely finished in my book.

.

JYD #39 I prefer "SATIN" blades!!!

I agree wiht knifeguy, tough or not it should be fit and finished right.

knifeguy- its justin, not jason (lol) but his knives do have minor imperfections in fit and finish, but its hand made knife, so thats to be expected, aslo, he does do some awesome work at a great price and I prefer knives from him that I'm going to beat the crap out of, they are some tough knives that perform great.

I have always found scrapyards attention to detail to be pretty good and am always satisfied wiht their knives.
if you don't get that satisfaction, patti and dan will make it right.

Think of it as a Swiss Army Knife. It has the toothpick option.

Seriously though, Dan and Patti will make it right, email Patti and they will be all over it!!! Great service from them!!!
