It's all about the heat treating protocol. Subject the chemical make up of INFI to poor heat treating and what will you have? A poor performing steel.
The trail masters for example were treated in a molten salt dip. Nothing special here in fact this is how it's been done for centuries. Some steels performance can be improved anywhere from 300% to 500% with deep cryo treating. So it's quite possible that dan could take an average steel like CV and vastly improve on it's performance.
If Dan was able to pick up the steel for pennies on the pound and worked some magic making it better then yes it still fits the maximum performance to price ratio banner.

Dogs,
I resurrected the thread "scrap yard questions". please read my last post in it. it will awnser some questions. 5200 B is 1095 on steriods. i have read that the chrome and vanadium allow for finer grain size and better performance. it is the same still as kabar's 1095crovan which they claim has better edge retention than 1095 case also uses the steel in their chromiun vanadium carbon folders. If heat treated well it can be very tough

I believe mike has a very good heat treatment and he really likes the steel

dan could make the toughest stainless knives ever Exactly, I think that a series of slicers that would be corrosion resistant, or dare I say proof, from SYKCO would rule! Though I think it's very unlikely.

It never hurts to ask - that's how we learn. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> And as W/D suggested, perhaps Dan will consider your suggestion. After all, you're dealing with a great Company here! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
