I saw Lynn Thompson in person, "sparring" with one of his employees at the show. The young fellow was about half his girth, but he didn't stand a chance. He is the kind of guy that will fool you, so everybody should think twice (or MORE) before you get into a knife fight. It doesn't take much to cut an artery.

As quoted in ...another forum:
"Knife fights" are Hollywood fiction. After seeing hundreds of knife incidents I have learned one thing for sure everyone gets hurt, logo or not. Run like hell and call the police.

I think the wisest choice in a knife confrontation is to throw the knife at your opponet and run. Because you never know what the other guy has up his sleeve. Chances are he is more skilled or has friends behind the corner and you're gonna get hurt. Some of the world's top experts on knife fighting will tell you this first before anything else.

If you throw the knife and miss it will only embolden the guy to go after an unarmed victim. Make tracks - FAST!

I'd just run. I don't see the logic in throwing away my only weapon. But also, even with knife throwing experience, in a conflict you'd very likely miss your target. People well trained with pistols miss from 15 feet away because of the adrenaline rush of the confrontation.
I'd keep the knife and if they ever got close enough, I'd use it.

if you're interested some of the short stories of Jose Luis Borges described knife fights in the slums of cities in Argentina. His stories are gripping. I think the tango and knife fights are what Argentina is proudest of when I read his books. The Argentines used knives that looked like kitchen cutlery.
Anyone else have a favorite author who brings knifefights to the page? It must take the braverey of a matador to to it, with any regularity. The fighting not the writing <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

I can't imagine that anyone who gets in knife fights with any regularity would be around very long. It's kind of like being a fast gun in the Wild West. Bill Hickock was a great gun-fighter, but Jack McCall shot him from behind.

I have a "friend" who is a point man on a privately contracted "team", and he uses a knife a fair amount -- but only against someone with a gun (close range, usually before the gun is drawn), and he will use a gun against someone with a knife. Seems to work for him.

Bill Hickock was a great gun-fighter, but Jack McCall shot him from behind. right -- I always wondered what would have happened to John "Doc" Holliday if he hadn't died of TB... maybe would have been assasinated -- cowardly, but probably the only way to kill someone like that...
