ibanez prestige rules. best guitar on the market.
i know a ton of *insert usa brand* fanboys who think i don't know anything about guitar just because of that. the fact that i'll play circles around them means nothing, i'm still a fool. ignorant condescending jerks, stick with down tuned power chords and vocals with no melody. i'll be dropping jaws with my RG.

Snook - looking forward to seeing some pix of your new axe! I was looking at a neck through Ibanez prestige on a guitar forum the other day - beautiful guitar! I've still got two Ibanez guitars - and parted with two others several years ago (an Iceman and an AX 7 string).

Ah-HAH! Dropping by the yard to see one of my favorite threads... A Kalamazoo 1 piece body Les Paul w/ P90's is in the air coming my way at an insanely low price - to be used as a theraputic study tool.... Its coming out of my book fund for law school. It started life in Kalamazoo as a Gold Top - but had a very good looking refin to a burst, knocking about 70% of its value off, so that it is no longer a collector's item and can be easily afforded by players. Pups aren't original, nor is the bridge, one pot has been replaced, and the tuners aren't original - all things that I don't care at all about, but make it worth even less, which is good for me. Its had a refret done, and sports the first 3 piece neck (much stronger - and weeks or months before the volute was added). Newer P90's have replaced the stupid mini humbuckers of the era. Most all of the stock guts are intact other than the one pot. This is a very unique instrument, made during some crazy times at Gibson, and cost less than many of us have spent in 5 minutes on INFI binges - and less than a new mass produced Gibson (and this baby is vintage!). ![[Linked Image from i163.photobucket.com]](http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t311/dzrice/06ff_3.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i163.photobucket.com]](http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t311/dzrice/56b0_3.jpg) And it has original bumble bee caps: ![[Linked Image from i163.photobucket.com]](http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t311/dzrice/a09c_3.jpg) And sports the Transitional (non rocker) neck tenon - this would be one of the first to use it, and one of the last before the short rocker tenon. For those history buffs, this baby was made right after Norlin's hostile takeover, but before any major changes. This beauty was literally days or a couple of months from having a pancake body. In fact, her SN shows w/ Gibson that she should have had a pancake body - but at such a hectic time of negative change, they still had to use up the rest of their good components as well. And she got one of the best bodies ever! Luckily she didn't have a one piece neck, or the collectors would have been swarming to have her refinished and flipped for cash. ![[Linked Image from i163.photobucket.com]](http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t311/dzrice/jpg.jpg) There's that one piece back... ![[Linked Image from i163.photobucket.com]](http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t311/dzrice/2499_3.jpg) Original case...: ![[Linked Image from i163.photobucket.com]](http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t311/dzrice/1f8a_3.jpg) 1969 was the last of the good years...

excellent! if only gibson still made em like that!!!!!!
i'm also glad you can dissect an instrument like that. if all the consumers did that, gibson would HAVE to make better guitars.
that's one of the cool things about our knife forums. everyone knows about steel, heat treat, and geometry. there's no pulling the wool over our eyes.

Thanks man. I've done a lot of homework, and when I saw how stupid cheap this thing was going for... I still resisted. I ended up getting it for even less after talking to the seller, who is a vintage collector himself (with about a dozen 50's and 60's Gibsons!).

In interesting news, I sold the pickguard from the above Gibson for $1,000. That is right, the little plastic pickguard, for a grand!! PLUS, the buyer is sending me a reproduction guard as well. I could have gotten about $1,500 if I'd held out for the "Right" buyer, but a guy at my guitar forum was needing one for his '69, so we worked a deal. Only some of the '69s had the vintage style "rolled" pickguards (same as the 50's) - and they're quite the collectible piece of hardware! That just made this guitar INSANELY cheap for me. And she rocks... HARD!! ![[Linked Image from i163.photobucket.com]](http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t311/dzrice/DSCN1698.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i163.photobucket.com]](http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t311/dzrice/DSCN1673.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i163.photobucket.com]](http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t311/dzrice/DSCN1694.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i163.photobucket.com]](http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t311/dzrice/DSCN1702.jpg) The overall playing experience of this guitar is unlike anything I've ever had before. She's not as "smooth and user friendly" as my newer guitars - but the sound, playability, and feel are just impossible to describe. The binding is "rolled" from 40 years of playing, and the fretboard dips slightly between each fret. She's very broken in - on her 2nd or 3rd set of frets, and just feels amazing. The P90 pups are very warm, and not as "noisy" as I've always been told they were. I was standing about 10 feet in front of and facing my stack during band practice, and had no feedback issues. This guitar is structurally sound - never had a neck break or anything like that. "Old wood" really does make a difference! After law school, I'm going to have to drop 5 figures on a 50's Gold Top or Custom - until then, I've got this beautiful vintage axe to play on for LESS than a new Gibson Standard costs!

what's the wife have to say about that?! She was pretty glad to get that piece of news! Brings the guitar down in the 1000's! I wish we were on the same end of the country - you'd just HAVE to get your hands on this thing! I've been working on my Pentatonics, up and down the neck. Lots of blues lately. I'm "back in the groove" - took a couple of years after taking all those years off. Feeling good now, though! I had already pulled the pickguard off when the guy asked if I'd be interested in selling it. He said that they were going for $1.2-1.7k, and since I didn't know it was worth anything until right then, I offered it to him for an even grand. Boy was I excited!!
