Don't put hot wieners in your mouth, buddy...
I'm off to the guitar shop for new strings. Taking a few axes in to a luthier next week to have him look at nuts and fret levels on a couple of 'em. The '69 needs some nut work I think, and I have an Elitist that needs a fret level.
I'll be back!

Talking about Guitar's and players. Checkout Allan Holdsworth, Michel Cusson, Akira Wada, some old Roy Buchanan, Johnny Winter, Eric Johnson is also very tasty, just to name a few. If you like jazz checkout Tal Farlow, Grant Green, Barney Kessel, Jimmy Raney, Jim Hall, early stuff from George Benson, Wes Montgomery, to name a few.

Johnson and Winter are great. I'll check out some of the others!
Do you play? Got any pix handy of your gear?

That guy is REALLY good! If he had 1/2 a brain, he'd have borrowed someone's Dean rather than using his Ibanez - but what-ever-I-guess! Amazing, though!

Do you play? Got any pix handy of your gear? Started playing in 69, but quit. Started to pick it up again in 88/89, quit again, it's hard work practicing for 2-3 hours a day, scales, chords, changes. Met quite a few local musicians in Sacto, CA jazz scene, Steve Homan, Henry Robinette, Jessica Williams? One of my buddies study at Berkley in MA, his roomate was Mike Stern. He introduced me to Steve Homan, this guy is phenomal. He has perfect pitch, he can play anything back right after hearing it. He can listen to an song and play the notes and changes, regardless of voicings. He can also write them down on paper while listening. Phenomal. He's also very humble has turned down offer's. He is on a Dianna Krall album though. He can also play using his thumb like a pluckturm, just like Wes Montgomery. He has scribed note for note every song Wes has ever done. It was so great knowing this guy and watching him play nights on "Jazz on Broadway" in Sacto. The few months I hung around with him was great. Something he was always noted for was his timing, he always had a foot tapping, just like a metronome. I remember when Kenny Burrell came to Sacto, him an Steve jammed in Kenny's hotel room for hours, Kenny wanted to buy his amp, but Steve said no way. He also jammed with Joe Pass in San Fransico. I learned alot of stuff from Steve in the short time I knew him. He gave me the changes to "Estate" a song that I liked alot and one time asked me to come up on stage and play in with the band, I said no way, lol A very nice guy. If you are ever in the Sacto, CA area checkout the Jazz/Fusion scence and see if he's around. If he still lives there, I sure he'll be playing somewhere. He also does alot of solo stuff which is very intimate, he would tell me.

I hope to get back to CA before too long - I'll be sure check out the jazz/blues/fusion scene there when I get back.
Its never too late to get started again!
Our own Mag22 is quite accomplished, particularly given the fact that he's a young guy - he will post a song or two during "after hours" posting sessions - always a great listen!

Pat Metheny was also a student with my buddy at Berkley in MA. Their teacher was Mick Goodrick. Mick made a solo album, and played on a few other's. The two best and really show's him playing are from Irresistible Forces and Audio-Visualscapes, there under Jack DeJohnnette's Special Edition group. Very hard to find on CD. The band smokes. If you are into Jazz/Fusion you will understand this stuff, otherwise it just might go over your head.

I just don't have it in me to play again or even try. I can appreciate any kind of musice except Hip Hop, Rap. I love instruments, especially guitar. I mostly listen to Fusion, Rock, Jazz, Heavy Metal, Blues, and Classical. I would love to hear some stuff from M22. The people I listed are the legends of guitar playing, I believe everyone that pick's up a guitar better get to know the players that played before them and made music what it is today. Did you know that Tal Farlow was using hammer-on's/off's back in the 40's? Check out Charlie Christian, a huge influence on Jazz guitarist for 25 year's 1940-1965.

Les Paul himself was doing some pretty crazy stuff well ahead of his time. I'll look up Tal Farlow for sure - I use hammers all the time! (here's a good vid! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37zmzkK4Wrg&feature=related ) As you can see, I'm a total Les Paul fanatic - I've been collecting them for years! ![[Linked Image from i163.photobucket.com]](http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t311/dzrice/DSCN1831.jpg)
