I went on a short hike with my boys this morning in the desert behind my house. Took along the DMLE and a Vic Fireman. As you can see, there are not too many trees to chop which is why I tend to favor 4-6" knives. Here are some pics.

Volcanic rock mountain. This one is a very tough climb, especially in the summer. The volcanic rocks are about 6-8" in diameter and the rattlers call this mountain home.

The desert floor. Lots of flat area for camping and a touch of green this time of year.

My beasts in a wash. This is about as much green ground cover as you are going to see around here.

Great pics! That type of terrain is totally different from what I am use to. How far can you see?

Well today is overcast so visibility is not as good as it normally is. I live in the higher desert area about 30 miles north of Phoenix proper so there are quite a few "mountains" or what most people call hills around me. Standing in that flat area in the pic above, I can clearly see the mountain range that surrounds north Scottsdale which is about 10 miles from me on an overcast day like this no problem.

Nice pix Ron! I'm still trying to convince the wife that we need to move to AZ. I'm thinking I'll apply to law schools there - and then she'll have little choice!

Ten miles!!! I am lucky to see one with all the forest around here.

As I say about Abilene, it's so flat you can watch your dog run away for a week.

HAHA. Let's see, my wife's friend was attacked by some Javalina's a couple weeks ago while she was jogging in the desert. She thought she was "going to die", but she kicked at one of them and then they lost interest. We have some really cute scorpions and some big desert toads. My dog likes to toss around the toads and then he foams at the mouth for a good 2 hours. Will he ever learn? He gets bit by scorpions quite a bit on his nose as well. We have bobcats and mountain lions, but I have yet to see one while out on a hike. They probably see my Scrap Yard knife and cower in fear . I did see a nice bobcat while I was in Kali over Christmas, wow, what a treat.

dude, attacked by hogs?
what?
thats crazy.
I was going to post pics of my cousins dog in that one thread, its practically mine too, I went over all the time (they lived across the stree) and baby sat it and stuff. he was awesome.
he was a freaking pure bred AB.

boar dogs are the best dogs to have in that kind of country, this dogs lines are awesome, his father and mother got their first hogs at 10 months old.
I think thats what I would want if I was jogging in the desert.
