If it's basically 440C it can't be too bad! I am kind of hoping Dan may do a new S4 in 440C (numbers and letters..)

I'm still going with 0170-6C as the "numbers and letters" steel. Maybe we'll find out tonight . . . bruce, this numbers and letters would be the perfect skelly | | |

I love 440C, and think it is the perfect skelly steel but it does not really suit the Scrapyard Scrappers are outside knives while 440C seems more like the kind of steel a nice str8 razor or gents custom should be made of. Even if it was an outside knife it would be more of a European bushcrafty one not a rough and tumble American pitbull.

Bld522,I have the Spyderco Wilderness in N690Co (Same as N690). After I got it I did some research on the steel. It has vanadeum (sp?) where as 440-c does not. It is actually much closer to VG10. I have read on at least two forums that it was basically German VG10. Very fine grain, stainless, a little tougher than VG10 or 440-c.
0170-6c is gone for good. The last batch was used up by Camalus. That is why Carbon V disappeared and why Mike Stewart of BRKT is searching for a new steel for his Golok.

bld522,I lurke (read abunch) on 10-15 different forums a day. When I first started on the various knife and survival forums I found that I seemed to be a thread killer. One post and that was the end of that thread. I was probably just posting on old threads, but it made me a little gun shy. I also try to avoid posting on subjects I really do not know much about. I also have to be careful in that on some subjects I get too emotional or frustrated. But, although I do not post alot, I do read the Scrapyard (and Swamp, and Busse, and BRKT) forums everyday. Having said that I have missed every Scrapyard release since the original DogFather. I picked up a SC6 LE at Bladewest 2006 and a UrbanMutt at BladeWest 2007. I have 15 other Busse family knives.
Many of my friends tell me I talk too much. I think my posting falls in the same catagory.
