wow, I just re-read his post, and he said nothing about it being a cg dogfather.
I hope it is, however either way if it's 140$ or under I'll get one.

Ooooh - I've been looking at the DF on the secondary market - this is great! Now if only I can snag one...

Thanks - I'm pretty much a lurker and just getting into knives, but I did pick up a YKCG <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I'm still debating on going the belt sander route for sharpening.

If you never sell for more than you paid, everyone will be calling you " Best Buddy " so get ready for the e-mails from those that miss out !!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I've tried to explain myself before, but it's hard because my feelings don't even always make sense to me. However, if somebody buys and holds onto something for "a while" and then charges a "reasonable markup", then that's OK, but exactly how "a while" or "reasonable markup" are defined is highly subjective.

To me, when somebody puts a knife up for $100 over retail the day after it sells out, that feels unfair. If the markup is $35-ish, or they wait 6 months, then that feels OK. I recognize that it's entirely up to a buyer to decide if they're willing to pay what's being asked. Nobody's life depends on whether they can get a specific brand or model of knife -- it's simply a commodity, and a luxury at that. So intellectually, I see nothing wrong with charging all that the market will bear, but emotionally, it just doesn't feel right.

On the other hand, my personal experience (and I know others who have had similar) is that there's a good chance you'll be disappointed if you buy something for somebody else (and expect them to pay for it just because they said that they were looking for one). So, when it's my own money, I only buy what I expect to keep. I sold one of my Rat Traps at cost after Knob Creek and I offered one of my YKCGs to a couple different folks on the same terms after they sold out so quickly. So long as it's not on a burdensome scale, I'd even act as a proxy buyer and endure the hassle of shipping to establish camaraderie, but I'd require the money + tax + shipping/insurance from my address to the end user's up front. I consider myself to be helpful, but I'm not going to pay for that privilege nor am I generally anxious to reduce my own collection.

Anyway, I guess that I'm a fairly normal American in which there exists a more than healthy connection between self-image and the acquisition of stuff, which is why I collect multiples. Maybe I wouldn't do that if I were more spiritually enlightened, but I'm not, so I do my best to keep the economy afloat instead.

Thanks Jim. I'm glad somebody is doing the right thing for the economy with all of this knife buying <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

As for me I only want sterile blades because I don't want to get sick <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Hmmm... Maybe Dan got sick because the last couple releases weren't sterile; I hadn't considered that.

i paid about $200ISH for a crash rat...used it & then turned around and traded it to "DOM" for a rat trap that he had recently paid
$139ish for.....why becuase i wanted the rat trap & had paid $250 for one before the last release...i felt like it was worth it

just because folks can turn around and "turn" stuff doesnt always mean there is money to be made

I ALWAYS buy more than one knife. I sometimes make money on them and I sometimes sell them at cost. I cashed in a DFLE and a Muttly the other day to buy some WW1 bayonets I wanted but I also sold my only spare YKCG to a buddy here at cost because I like the knife and I wanted him to have one.

I need a S6LE to complete my collection of LE models so I picked up a extra DFLE for the day I find someone who wants to trade straight across. It may take a while but it will happen.

If there is only a very few I would be OK with a limit of 2 like the Spyderco Mule. I would have liked to buy more than 2 YKCG's but I did not because I was worried not everyone would get one.

If I had the cash I would have bought 10 DFLE's. I love the knife and feel strongly that it will retain and grow in value. I have my favourite used on my lap right now actually.

Seems like we go through this discussion at every release. It wouldn't bother me if there were some limits placed on how many knives one person could order. One person could just buy all of them for resale at a higher price. I see nothing wrong with buying a few extras, though.

It would be a nightmare for Patti to keep up with but a 1 knife per person per release in the first 24 hours and then whoever could by as many as they wanted of what was left after the first 24 hours would go a long way to solving the problem. Of course with a 48 hour and a 24 hour notice with a 1 hour release time let's us know what's coming and if we want it. I've made a few friends in the yard. If I couldn't get on and order one when it hit I'm sure I could PM one of the other dogs and have them get me one. Sure I'd have to pay an extra shipping charge to get it but that's not a problem IMHO.

normally i'm not oppossed to buying some extras. nothing wrong with reselling them later. But on a release like this when it's an overrun and the qty is going to be very limited i'm for a very steep limit.
