Sometimes I like to drag out some of my knives for comparison. I had been reprofiling the point and handle on my Bark River Wet Enviro Recon. Happy with its new "pointiness", I reached in the knife drawer and pulled out some comparable sized knives.

Top to bottom: Fosters Fears Survival (440C), Scrap Yard Street Scrapper 4 (INFI), Bark River Wet Enviro Recon (12C27), Bayley Bear Grylls knife(RWL34),
Scrap Yard Dumpster Mutt LE (SR77).

The SS4 is my favorite in this bunch. How can you lose with INFI and Res C? Cuts like crazy and fits my hand perfectly.

The "mini-bowie" DMLE dominates this duo. These two are about the same overall size.

While not quite as thick as the original DM, the DMLE is still the thickest blade here. 5" of flat ground .25" thick SR77 goodness!

Thanks, SB. The Bark River did not have a swedge. It looked like my old mess kit knife. Just boring. Now it is pointy and more dagger-like. While I was messing with it, I thought I'd compare it with a few of my others in that size. I have two DMLEs. I may grind a swedge on one of them, although I think the DMLE looks fine as it is. I have used all these knives a little, and they are all good blades. The INFI SS4 is an amazing cutter.

As always Vic a informative and revealing expose into 4 inch cutters!

I didn't hear you raving too much about that Bear knife there...

"that was a poke" I know you paid a ton of money for that pretty knife and I am very sorry it just doesn't float your boat Vic.

The SS-4 is perfect isn't it? That dimpled Res-C handle is a real gripper, and using INFI for the steel of choice...well Dans finest hour for sure.

That Bark River Recon looks like a sweet blade. I love the shape too!

Thanks for the show and tell Victor!

Peace.

Yeah, I got burned on the Bayley, but at least I didn't order the new Rambo knife! The Bayley is a fine hand made knife. It cuts as well as any here. As expensive as it was, think what it would cost now with the dollar losing value. I just prefer my howlers, mutts, and SS4. The Bark River is a fine knife, too, but a bit more costly than a scrapper. They are coming out with a 3/16" thick version of the Bravo-1 in 12C27 this year. The Barkies are very good knives. I haven't used the Fosters that much, but it cuts well and good old 440C is fine with me. There are no losers in this bunch, but I have my favorites, and they just happen to be the scrappers. I actually prefer my SS4 as a user to my Meaner Street, another fine little knife.

Great show and tell, and comparisons, Vic. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

That is a very interesting grouping, and I can't help but be drawn to the SS4 and the Mutt, I guess that's why we hang out here, we just can't help but love that INFI, or SR77 combined with that RES-C. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Nice selection of blade to choose from there. All with sheaths ready to go. I like it.

Thanks, Jeeps. The sheaths for the Scrappers shown are Rainwalkers. Hope you are feeling better. You suppose any of that "Numbers and Letters" steel Dan scored is stainless? Stainless versions of SYKCO knives would be great for those who use them a lot in wet places. How cool would a satin stainless SS4 or Yard Keeper be? While I like SR77 just fine, I wonder what other steels Dan has in store for us down the road when the S7 runs out.

That would be a 'holy grail' daily user, IMO. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" />
