It took a bit as the snow got quite deep here!

Do you hike around in that white stuff with snow-shoes or waders?

Looks to soft for skiing.

The thing about today is that it warmed up to about 0f! Compared to the average -40f we have had for 4 weeks this was amazing. Tikka can handle the -40f without moving around, so with it being so warm and her being so active you need to wonder how she managed not to over heat. Dan may be interested in this as well. Without further ado, I present the patented Tikka Cryo Quench (tm) (r).

She does this on a regular basis, as well as stretching right out in the snow. She isn't some soft southern dog!

Way too soft for skis. The entire snowfall is very crystalline here. Just like sugar actually and due to the weather at the start of the year there is NO base. I only had the old style mesh snowshoes so I left them at home. They don't help in this stuff. I just took my time and waded through it. Truth be told, I had to go really slow, otherwise I would overheat and sweat too much. It was just about too warm today!

This is the little pond I was trying to find. You can see Tikka is on lap two across:

This was a while later once I had things going. I settled down to enjoy the location and decided to give Tikka a milkbone (Think scooby snack for Tikka!). Besides, could you say no to this face?

Tikka promptly took off with it & scouted for a prime location:

Where she promptly buried it in the snow for later! It was hard to capture, but she is shoving snow onto the milkbone with her nose!

This was the view from my little corner of the world:
[Linked Image from img177.imageshack.us]

I was up on the ledge you can see on the far side of the pond in the photos above.

I was able to get a nice little fire going up there. It can be challenging since everything is fairly damp & frozen solid. One thing to get damp wood going that is already defrosted, having to get the wood defrosted adds another challenge!
[Linked Image from img246.imageshack.us]

Of course, Tikka, being ever helpful assisted in kindling creation by shredding wood:

I just realized how many photos I took! This is about the halfway point! Downside being the harsh use is coming up shortly.

But first, a snack! Since it had been such an unbelievably long time since my last wander, I brought along an IMP. Some folks hate them, I love them! Beans and wieners make a great campfire meal:
[Linked Image from img184.imageshack.us]

As I finished my meal, I think I just got a little stupid. Not sure why, but I think it was just that wonderful feeling of finally being outside & enjoying a campfire. Of course, having a nice warm meal multiplied that feeling to a dangerous level.

Then it happened.
