Dang subject won't let me make the title longer. oh well. Anyways, like the title suggests, I've been wanting to talk about folding knives for a long time. I know we've done some recent ones about specific folders (i.e. Spydercos), but that was a little specific. So with out further adieu, let's talk folder favorites. I don't know if anyone on this forum has one of these. Microtech SOCOM Elite with a Part Serr S90V blade. 0.185in stock. At first I was rather reluctant to use this thing. I guess, after awhile of just letting it sit in its sheath it got bored and decided to come out and slice some trees and apples and oranges. I really like it. It's pretty large. 4+ inch cutting edge and 9+ inch overall. The handles are really sweet and oddly enough extremely comfortable. It may not be the smoothest folder in the world, but it sure opens with authority. The "rocker lock" (also .185 in thick) makes a really loud and satisfying *clack* when it hits. It's also downright sharp. I don't really care for the S90V blade, but after using the serrations to saw through wood, it's still freakishly sharp. I might have to get one in plain edge if I can find one. These are pretty rare nowadays. I think these are the only production knives to use S90V. Spyderco did use S60v in some of there older Millies or Paramillies, I think. I'll try to get some better pics of some other folders that I have that I really like.

Nice Microtech. The Rat Trap is a great looking knife. I can't wait for the next Bussekin folder offering. Yes, I have faith. I usually carry a beat up Spyderco Endura for a locking folder and I always have a SAK or this old Schrade on me. My Spyderco and a Coot (note the Bussekin content). One of 40 SAK's I like to carry. My Schrade. Recently back from retirement.

My current EDC is a Spyderco Lava, and a Victorinox Classic. ASH1 shown for Busse content. Looking forward to a Scrapper folder, and I wouldn't mind seeing the Rat Trap make another appearance!

mmm, nice.
for me, it's the SAK and the Spyderco. I have a couple favorite bucks too but for folders, spyderco schools all in my eyes. the zdp189 endura is pretty badass, the delica does it all, and the little big knives are classy supercutters. my d'allara drop point has survival folder written all over it.
as for saks, i like to keep it below four layers. for all my travels the past month or so all i brought was my pioneer, and it's taken good care of me. that's my main knife anyway, it's a good fit. other favorites in this category are the huntsman, oht, and deluxe tinker. the swistool spirit s rocks so hard i think it's unfair to include.
At the moment, i don't have any pics of my complete sak collection or spyderco collection, so i'll just let you guys wait.

Sweet. I don't know too much about the rat folder. I do like it it. It really reminds me of the BM Vex... or is it the other way around? I'm starting to like spydercos. I have my eye on the Stretch in Carbon Fiber. very nice looking. It's well sized, carbon fiber, ZDP-189, and it's a lock back. This is a limited edition in G-10. Pic from kknife.com, some korean site with a lot of good pics. Here's this one in CF

I'd like a Stretch eventually as well, I think. I have a couple Manix, and they're great. I don't take one w/ me all the time, but if I know I'll be doing a lot of cutting, it goes in my pocket.
I'd still like to get my hands on a Spyderco Mouse or a Bladetech Mouse (G10) - I have the Bladetech Mouse Lite (FRN), really like it, but the G10 version is backordered and out of production... Gonna have to wait...
Sometimes its best to just have a little tiny tiny folder (such as when I'm on campus). That Lava will SLASH though, if needed. The grip, although small, is very secure.
I have a bunch of SAKs as well, and usually carry my Vic Soldier.
I blame my Spydie addiction on Mag22, and my Vic addiction on Mag and Jeeps. I didn't give them a second glance until I saw those guys praising them up and down.

i MUST SAY my caps were locked, I love my rat trap but here in King county the limit on blade length is 3 in. witc allows the Delica to be leagle, also I have trained with Insight and that is the knife that they reccomend so I a comfortable with a cheap GREAT knife. It has not failed me an I carry it above my 400.00 Strider SnG, that about sums it up. But if the kin would offr a tipUP carry 3'' folder I would buy 2 or more more like 4, (the wife carries a Delica as well) BRING IT BOYS!!

when i want a little knife, i carry either my protech runt or a spyderco walker. when i want something a little bigger, i carry a benchmade ares or a spyderco bob lum design (fully serrated). when i'm hiking, i carry my bradley alias and a small fixed blade. a knife, or two, for every walk

The main reason I can't do the Rat Trap is because of the liner lock. I am a lefty and right handed liner locks are no good for us lefties. They are doable, but I prefer spine locks. Darn me being wrong handed.

Hopefully I can get a stretch some time soon. It's a shame that the Manixes are out of production. They were really good for the money. As for smaller folders. I carry my SOCOM Mini. Big and Mini I guess it's not much smaller. 8 inches total. It is an auto, which is sweet. I think it coiled fired. It's got some good kick to it. First, time I opened it, it nearly flung out of my hand. It's a special edition with the handle cut out and an S60V blade. BTW, it was freaky, freaky, freaky sharp. I could slice standing hairs. Cuz of that, I also couldn't use the sucker. Might, have been the sharpest out of the box besides my first Rukus in Pewter. (The RUKUS wasn't hair splitting sharp, but it could easily slice a piece of paper, lengthwise, in half while free floating in mid-air. I think this was due to the edge length and geometry) After I while, I got tired of just playing with it and also decided to harvest some branches and etc. It's not freaky, freaky, freaky sharp, but it's freaky sharp. The S90V is hold up amazingly though. Good Stuff.
