seriosly, comparing scrap yard keeper with a folder I would have to say that the CS voyager or one of my many spidies is the closest because they cost signifigantly less than my benchmades and perfom just as well even better. they have a price to performance bang like scrap yard. although the keeper is tougher I used my voyager tp pry and dig through a 2 x4 and would say it does as well as the keeper.

To be as light and inexpensive as they are, the CS Voyagers are amazingly tough. I have used them for years.

Nice Microtech.

The Rat Trap is a great looking knife. I can't wait for the next Bussekin folder offering. Yes, I have faith.

I usually carry a beat up Spyderco Endura for a locking folder and I always have a SAK or this old Schrade on me.

My Spyderco and a Coot (note the Bussekin content).

One of 40 SAK's I like to carry.

My Schrade. Recently back from retirement.

I've got a simialar schrade, my aunt gave it to me just after my uncle passed away, he carried it for about 20 years, $hit it just struck me, I've had it since 1986.
The knife is probably older then 1/2 the posters on this forum, it was my edc for about 15 years and I do ocassionally put it into my edc rotation

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Seems M22 doesn't like BM too much. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Oh well...

Vic,

How do you like the Dejavoo? They are really, really smooth for a production folder. So is the Skirmish.

I've been wanting to get a Skirmish. I think it was the one of the first BMs that I wanted. Couldn't find a coloring scheme that I liked. The normal was two fruity. The silver accents didn't really do it too much for me.

Ultimately, I still wanted a Blackwood design, thus the only logical thing to do was buy the RUKUS. Good choice too. G10/Micarta handles + Axis lock. I was pretty happy. Never realized that it was so larger, in fact, it the same size as the RMD.

Neil Blackwood is an amazing maker. He really likes making extremely large knives for some reason. I've heard is personal folder is his Mega Skirmish. It's somewhere around 13-16 inches. So I've heard, it could even be more.

I'm really glad that BM is taking some time with a few well known custom makers and coming up with affordable versions of expensive custom folders (500-2000 dollar range). I'm really looking forward to the new Osbourne design Rift.

The new Rift might go better with the pack rather than the SOCOM. The Rift is 8 inches long. If I need some light cutting I really don't need 4-5 inches worth of steel. A good 3-3.5 will do fine.

Bld522,

Go try one of the BM Osbourne Axis, 940 or 960. It'll match your watch. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

And one or two would go well with your Scrap Yard Knives. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I love the Dejavoo. It's the first liner lock I have really liked to carry. Smoooooth. Slices and dices well, with a wicked point, too. The Skirmish is a big old brute of a knife. About as close to fixed blade tough as a folder can get, IMO. I need to start using it some. Had it over a year.

WHAT!!!! You've had the Skimirsh for over a year and never bothered to use it!!!!s Send it to me. It'll see lots of service. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Just polish up the edge a bit. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

But, really, the Blackwood BMs are a really good companion with the Busse Kin Knives.

Anyways,

I was also pretty amazed at how smooth it was. No blade-play either. Extremely smooth, light, and sharp. It was a pretty experience. The first time I held the Dejavoo, it really did feel like a full custom folder.

Will you be doing a "cut off" sometime soon with folders and small fixed blades?

If you were what knives would you possibly use?

SS4, DMLE, Skirmish, Endura, YK, YK LE, BandiCoot, Dejavoo, Rat Trap(if you get one), I'm guessing. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

That gives me another idea...

Maybe sometime in the future we (the Yard), could do some joint effort reviews. People could do various testings, however they please, and post it up on a single thread.

HD could do his chop-offs...

Cold-one could do his meaningless, but informative destruction-like tests <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> , Diceman could also do some more prolong chopping, 5-6 inches worth of wood. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I can use all the help I can get. All that bushcraft stuff, well Brian is good at that. I like to chop. I'm good at it. A division of labor makes sense. I mostly open packages and do food preparation with smaller knives.
