Well... looks like we should have a completely different section for reviews then?

Any dogs have a Spyderco Stretch yet?

Wow. Looks like I missed out big time with some posts in this thread.

First and foremost, I feel the best action you can take when you are concerned about a post or thread is send a note to a moderator or use the report button.

Unless I am directed otherwise by Dan or they overwhelm the forum, a folder discussion doesn't seem to be bad to me. With the Rat Trap being the only exception, from my viewpoint folders do not and cannot compete with what Dan & Jerry bring to the table.

A nice folder to me, complements the great knives from the Yard & from Jerry. Kind of like icing on a cake.

If the discussion was to stray into folders that are designed & try to replace fixed blade knives, then that would be a different situation.

This doesn't give everyone carte blanch to point a half a dozen folder threads though!

Sorry for missing the boat with the thread for so long everyone! A big THANK YOU! to Jim for helping me with my confusion as to what caused some issues.

Long live the Yard!
Chris

CO,

I don't think a folder can really ever completely replace a Busse Kin fix, but sometimes we can't carry a huge honkin' fix blade everywhere we go (well maybe some, Pop and his DFLE in that really sweet custom sheath by Rainwalker. ). Even really well made and strong folders (i.e. custom framelocks, etc) still will fail far earlier than a fix.

I really hope we can continue this discussion, I feel I new folder might be in the slowly appearing next to my RMD. And sometime down the road, during the year, some dogs might happen to just land on my lap. Bladewest 'O8... HERE I COME!!!!

Also, thank for understanding the situation. It was rectified earlier by a few fellow dogs, so it's all good!!

Three other favorites are the REKAT Sifu, Pocket Hobbit and Carnivoure. Sadly, my pictures of these beauties have flown the coop.

I like the Manix. Reminds me of my Benchmade Dejavoo all over again.

So after coming back from the mall to compare the mini-rukus and manix, I think I'm leading towards the Manix because of the thicker blade and better grip handles. The manix just feels more soild. A lot of people say the rukus is tough, but it doesn't feel that way. They have one manix left at my local military surplus store and about $50 cheaper then the mini-rukus. What should I do? I just got a Delica recently and love it, but its kind of thin.

The Manix is a big chunk of chocolate Vic. Like the Chinook it's pretty stout. Your Skirmish also looks like a folder to reckon with. Of the three I posted pic of, the Li'l Temp is my favorite. It has Spyderco's compression lock which reminds me of Microtech's rocker lock locking system except the locking mechanism is on the back of the blade.

What should I do?

I have quite a few Benchmades and like them all. However, I've never had a Ruckus but. I'll bet it's tough. I'm fairly new to Spyders and really like the sturdiness of both the Manix and Mini-Manix. Of the two, I like the Mini-Manix because it's a little more pocket friendly.

Spydercos are becoming to dawn on me. I really like their simple design. Also the lack of thumbstud allows for deep slicing and full use of blade. Hopefully within the next month or two I can order myself a Spyderco. Specifially a millie with BG-42 and CF. Or maybe just a normal Millie

About the Rukus. Personally I really really really really really really hate the Mini Rukus. It just seems that BM shrunk the blade of the RUKUS and stuck it on the full size handle. Blade to handle ratio just sucks. The auto rukus, however, is a completely different story.

If I were you I'd get the full size. It's got a lot of bell and the very good edge geometry. For some reason, my Rukus, after all its use, isn't shaving sharp, but it can cut soooo much better than my screamin' sharp SOCOM. I think it has something to do with it's length of blade and grind. But, it's an amazing cutter. However, when I first got the Rukus, whooo.... was that brute sharp. My first test was to cut a free hanging piece of printer paper length wise.... it passed... but of course the paper wasn't hanging on any string by rather floating helplessly in mid-air. It cut all the way through. I was rather amazed. Now, it can only get about 3/4 of the way through. Not nearly as sharp, but sharp enough.

The only real problem that I had was rolling of the edge. Just a little bit after helping clear half a forest worth of holly. Also, the from of the tip has a couple of dents from me prying out staples.

The Rukus is holding up great. IMO, the Mini rukus is absolutely no substitute for the full size. It's like comparing a DM to a DF. A really big difference.

Willieboy,

Sweet Spydies. I think the first Spyderco I was introduced to was the Manix. I really like the size and blade of the Manix. It seems like a real cutter. Unfortunately, lock backs, as strong as they are, aren't really my lock type. Sad that they are taking it out of production...and coming out with the Manix II. Hope it's gonna be a good.

Wouldn't it be cool to see a Manix with a Spyderco's ball bearin lock?? I think Spyderco should reintroduce their ball bearing lock to a variety of their popular folders.

Bang for the buck, as most people have said, Spydercos are definitely the best. Great pieces to go with Scrapyard knives.

Oh btw, the Axis lock is wicked strong. I stood on my really crappy griptilian several times...the lock was fine. No blade play, it was all good. It didn't feel like it was gonna give either. Really strong lock. I'm actually quite afraid standing on the lock of any other folding knife.

Well now that I mentioned me standing on knives, I guess I might as well spill the beans and say, "I also stood on my thin RMD." Yea... it did fine too. I could bounce on it. It was rather fun.

I don't know why but I never considered a ZT knife. I saw it at a knife show last year when I first got into knives but I thought it was to bulky then, but now I really want one.

The standard colors can be found almost new for $180.

But the one I really want, I can only get through Tad Gear, which is in San Francisco, only a 40 minute drive. But $295 + tax..
