It is a lock back, only difference is that there is a stop pin right in front of the lock. Who would have thought of that? Also, there is a lot of space inside the lock. Not everything is completely flush and together.
The purpose is to redirect most of the force from the blade to the handles rather than the locking system. I don't know if this is true, just what CS says.

when i got into knives, i wanted a recon 1 bad. it was too expensive.

I know what a lot of folks say about CS, but they do test their knives. The hollow grind is not what I would use for a chopper. I like the blade shape. I will test it when they become available at reasonable prices. I plan to put it up against the Benchmade Skirmish. We will see how tough it is. I will post the comparo over on BF. A large folder that could do what a fixed blade can do is my dream knife.

Meh, I really don't like the action of their knock off AXIS lock. I was playing with their AK-47 today. The action is really stiff. I really didn't like it.

I don't know why. If it wasn't new, the action should have been smoother.
I guess what I don't like is the position of the lock. It's too close to the ricasso.
Well... to be fair, the CS AK-47 is just a really awkward knife. I didn't really like the design and the wave wasn't as smooth as I expected it to be.
