you gotta make your own call, sharp. having a safe queen or two just because you like them is nothing to be scared of. in reality, you can only use one at a time, so we've all got knives that get more use than others, and most people have some knives that never see action. even kitchen knives, that are the most used knives, have ones that become favorites and ones that just don't get used. if you decide to trade it, good on ya... if you decide to keep it and pamper it, good on ya... it's up to you.

True, very true. My Nimravus hasn't seen much since I got it. It's still in a pristine shape. After I got my FFBM it was sort of the end for me. I don't know what I do with out the FFBM.

I'm still thinking of trading it. It is quite a hard decision. If I was a collector I definitely wouldn't trade it or sell it. It would complete a SOCOM collection with the S##V series steel.

We'll see how it goes down tomorrow.

Yea but Farid knives are not my taste, they are "corny" to say the least.

Last time I checked the waiting list for a Scott Cook blade is what, 1-2 years!

They are excelent makers though, the Lycosa folder has always caught my eye.

then I would just use the full size, (or "manual" as I was calling it for some reason) it's obviously a VERY good knife and it's a shame to keep it as a "safe queen" just because it might be a limited run of the knife or something.

JMO though.

I used it the last we made some traps. The serrations were very useful for making stop notches and the plain edge was good for whittling. It's a very useful knife and is still as sharp as it was when I got it. 'Course I expect S90V to do that.

I think the SARD can do everything and more than the socom.
The sard is 440c which also has excelent edge retention and eickhorns 440c is put under the german equivalent to the busse heattreat.
Plus its cheaper. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

The SARDs are starting to get to me. I might try one out some day. They do look very functional and dropping 100-130 for a folder isn't too bad considering my Rukus was more and use the hell out of the Rukus.

Me too on Farid. His folders are quite nice minus the chisel groud.

The Lochsa would probably be the last knife that I buy in my life. It's one-up on the Sebbie, but for that much, it's a safe queen and looker.

I might be a snob but I wouldn't pay over $30 for anything in 440A even if Jerry made it, much less $100+

Drop Tanto.

They're clip, drop, and blunt are just too weird for me.

Darkaether is right. They are made of 440A. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

brief diversion: I thought about a new thread but it really shouldn't be necessary. I want to fill the traction pattern in my FRN spyderco grips under the pocket clip so it won't be so abrasive to my pants. Anybody have any suggestions? I'd like it to be nice and durable, aesthetics definitely being secondary to function. I'm not really worried about the grip either because I'm only going to do the spot where the clip applies pressure.

If nobody has any direct experience I might just try whatever it is that people were filling the glock backstraps with to reprofile them.

hmmm. i'd try cutting a small clear plastic strip from a clam pack of batteries or something and hold it on with some flexible adhesive like e-6000. you'll need enough length beyond the clip so you don't knock it off when you jam it in your pocket.

hey darkaether, I have read many folks recomend to just sand it smooth it is not as good looking but it is about function anyways. this will ease where on your pants and make it so you can get the knife out of your pocket faster with less snagging-surface edges.
