can't say i'm with you on that one. i don't dig the look of anything from zt, even the hinderers. just not a fan of designs that look like they're gonna fly off into outer space. i'm definitely a design minimalist, but hey different strokes for different folks, zt sure isn't short on business.

well a couple days ago I bought a knife I'd been eyeing for a few years.
A ZT 0300. I always wanted to handle one, but the price has been prohibitive. Well, I snagged one on the exchange for $110, albeit stripped, scratched and dull.

Problem with Cali is that fixed blades are felonies unless carried in plain sight, and the law gives one example of plain sight as being on a belt and so dumbass LEOs will claim felony if it's ANYWHERE NOT on the belt, despite legal precedences. Other dumbass LEOs will harass you if they see you with it on the belt. Can't win either way. (I am a law abiding citizen and am VERY grateful for the service of honest, law abiding LEO's in their daily efforts. It's the unscrupulous or ignorant ones that I am referencing in the above paragraph)

So much of my knife money as of late has been going to folders since I don't feel like getting harassed anymore.
That and the half dozen Busse and bussekin fixed blades that fill my toolbox, safe, and bob pretty much have my fixed blades needs covered.

In spirit of "running for the porch" I should have divided that previous post into 3 posts or more. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

For me a folder needs to meet 3 criteria. It needs to be functional, tough , and cheap. For me that is a Cold Steel Voyager series folder. They cut decently, hold a good edge, and can be had for anywhere from $30-$50. The newly redesigned voyagers released in 2011-2012 are even tougher than the original ones with the new locking mechanism and the aluminum liners they are very robust. The best part is at that price point if I lose one or break one I'm not going to be very upset over it, and I can afford to have backups to my backups which will allow me to pass a few around in case of emergency. I have to admit though that there are some really pretty knives out there. I just can't justify the price right now. LOL

regards,
Joe

I want different folders for different needs. I carry a spyderco Dyad mini, which with its <2.5" blade is post office and college campus legal.
I also usually have a spyderco pm2 or a kershaw speed bump or a large sebenza for larger tasks or when sheeple aren't involved.

I also do handyman type stuff, during which a beefy fixed blade (s5le / HRLM ) is on my belt, along with leatherman, and usually a spyderco millie, speed bump or pm2.

I prefer all my knives to have steel that holds an edge for a really long time, and ergos that feel good and keep the hot spots away.

For folders, I also swith between thicker blades that I can abuse (ZT/kershaw), and thinner blades that slice well, usually are lighter to carry and pocket better (Spyderco).

And then there's the bob, which in addition to obligatory fixed blade, has a m4 Ritter Grip with wilkins scales, a multitool and a small sak
