I snapped a few quick pics of Blizzard '08. I actually had to work today so I was driving in this stuff but my truck did ok so it wasn't that bad.

My "work truck".

My mutt said "No way am I going out there."

Not as action packed as macgregors but still pretty cool to see how much snow we got.

Nice pics. We had a blizzard of sunshine today in northern California, high in 60's. Took a nice 100 mile twisties ride up Mt. Hamilton (where the Leek observatory is) down the backside to Livermore and back over again.

I need a DF and sheath on my Tuono. I'll bet cars would give me a lot more room <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I've got a pair of Danner "Ft. Lewis" model winter boots - and i had some Rockies I think (same boot - built a little cheaper - Army cold weather issue). I had some Mickey Mouse boots issued - but never wore them. You'll sweat your feet off in them - they don't breathe! I suggest a good pair of goretex lined winter booths with booties (2 pairs of booties, swap them out when one pair gets sweaty) and some good wool socks. Wicking is the key - just like the poly pros - same with your boots.

Cotton kills! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Wool and Fiber-pile Poly are the way to go.

normally when I'm out in the cold, I do so much running around and stuff I get hot, only my hands get cold.
so I would want boots that breath really good and are comfortable, I guess heavy isn't too bad, but my feet would sweat more.
I saw a video where a guy put plastic bags on his feet so his boots didn't get wet on the inside.

and I don't like spending alot of money on boots...honestly I'd like to spend 60 or under...

and what are poly pros, and what is wicking?

poly pros are the base garment for the ECWS clothing
basicly they are underwear
wicking is when sweat is lifted of your skin by the garment

it sounds like those altamas will suit you well
I'm pming you

I don't do it to keep warm, I do it because... I'm just always running around, chopping, lifting/carrying, digging,climbing... or even just trudgin through snow can make you overheat.
but anyways... I prefer them to be light and breathable, but I can always just use some plastic bags.

they take abit to break in but you can take the finish off, soak them in water for a few hours then walk around in them till they dry
or you can do what I did, walk up a creek for a few hours then invest in a moleskin factory <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
you got that one right

O btw, they are not waterproof
after you wear them for a few months your feet will be so fit that you can rub sandpaper on the for hours and not get blisters and who needs dry socks

Sweet pics.

Looks like you had a good time with your dogs in the snow. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

As far as getting into the boot talk, I'm using Garmont T8s. They are very comfortable. They have decent impermeability. Though, they dry really quickly when wet. There were made to be specifically jungle boots.

I really like them. They are fairly light and extremely comfortable.
