My dad called me this morning and asked me to come over because his throat hurt, he was sweating and he had a headache. Right when I was going out the door I called him and he said he was going to call 911. I arrived the same time as the Fire Dept (hats off to those gents), they did some testing and took him to hospital #1 where I was told he had a heart attack by the doctor on staff but that they could not treat him there. They gave him nitro and Plavix. Off to hospital #2 where the heart specialist was on site.

He went directly in to surgery and he did well. I spoke with him after he got in to ICU. He goes in for another surgery Monday and a third surgery in a month. The heart surgeon litterally saved his life. The surgeon showed me video from the procedure and explained what the issue was and what he did to address it. I gave the surgeon a firm handshake and thank you which seemed so petty given what he did for my dad. I am going back to see my dad in a couple of hours. Man what a scary situation.

It started out bad Ron, given the circumstances, it sounds like it is ending with a lot of reflection and thanks for having what is really so important to us all--our family! Knowing that your father did well in this ordeal is a tremendous relief for you - and also for us! I also send my prayers and best wishes for your father's speedy recovery and for the rest of your family.

And BTW, I guaranty that firm handshake of yours with a heartfelt "Thank you" to the surgeon probably made his day as well. No expression of thanks and gratitude from the heart is ever a petty thing. That kind of thank you is what keep many in the Emergency health field (on every level) going when things get overwhelming and full of despair.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers guys. I just got back and he is in great spirits. We were joking about his nurse, she is easy on the eyes. Him calling 911 was key. Time for some sleep for me.

Ron,

Your father is and will be in our prayers for a speedy recovery with no complications.

Thank God for the skilled hands of a surgeon. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" />

They do amazing things don't they?

Be well Ron, there is healing on the way for your Father. I am very grateful for it! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Peace & Co.

I hope everything works out for the best. I just had a couple bad blood clots in my legs and lungs this past couple weeks which is why I have not been around. Ironically they are most likely from sitting wrong and spending way to much time on the net. It was a real wake up call to get some more exercise and start eating better. I hope that this is how it works for your Dad. Just scary enough so he starts taking better care of himself and is around for a long time. I much prefer it to be myself in distress rather than a family member because it is much less frightening. I (and most people) can handle the idea of our own deaths much better than that of a loved one. My biggest worry was that I would be a burden to my family.

I try to take something positive away from things like this. If I remember correctly Jeeps already spends lots of time hanging out with his Dad as well which is great. The last thing you want to regret is things you "have not done".

Best wishes to your Dad and thanks to everyone here who are always so supportive whenever a Dog is in need!

I appreciate the support guys. Just got back again and he is doing great. The heart surgeon said he is ready to go on surgery 2 tomorrow. I picked my mom up from the airport since she was in China on business when this happened and I drove her back to the hospital. Seeing my mom was great for my dad mentally I am sure.

Unsub, I wish you the best with the clots. Life can change on a dime for good or bad. We all need to be greatful that have friends and family each and every day. I wish you the best bro.

As you mentoined Unsub, my dad and I have spent alot of time together after my brothers death so that's a good thing and I am glad for that.

I had mentoined the knife purchase to my wife and she logged on at 3 pm central time and scored a DMDC for me. I can't believe what a wonderful women she is. This after she helped me and my dad through the last couple of days with his heart attack. Incredidle.

Thanks again folks. The support helps.
