What models of Busse/Swamp Rat/Scrap Yard knives do you need to own in order to have a complete collection? Obviously, this answer will vary. But in my view, you need to have AT LEAST four knives to consider your collection complete:
1) A chopper (e.g., Dog Father/Battle Rat/Battle Mistress) 2) A camp knife (e.g., Scrapper 6/Camp Tramp) 3) A fat-bellied skinner/slicer (e.g., Howling Rat) 4) A thin-bellied skinner/slicer (e.g., Street Scrapper 4/Bandicoot)
And possibly a fighter (e.g., Pure Bred Fighter/Satin Jack).
And at least ONE of those knives has to be manufactured by Busse Combat.
Do you agree? Do you disagree? What do you think you need to own to make your collection complete? In terms of a knife for every situation? If so, you're missing a folder; a dagger (SOG Pentagon to be precise). I'm sure there's more!

I read sometime ago that Busse was going to come up with a folder or something. What ever happened to that? About the SOG, its just my favourite style of dagger. Sorry I should of kept it to context.

Very good Question I agree with you on the 4 different styles of fixedblades and like bigocean pointed out you need a folder and I would say a Multi-tool as well (old school leatherman supertool for me) now dose that mean a "compleat collection" NO. if it did you would have no reason to buy more knives. So that may be a complet collection of "using knives", but you gotta have more than that. The whole point of a collection is that it is always growing with your whims, wants, and what the Yard has for sale also I think it is important to be expanding in to new areanas of knife, Just my 0.02.

But just imagine... if the yard were to make a light 5inch double sided dagger, with one fully serrated edge like the SOG Pentagon in polished satin (or coated for the tactical folks among us) SR-77 steel (or even better INFI ). The kraton handle replaced with Resprene-C. That enough to bring a shiver to my skin Just a thought...

AK for when the Zombies attack
DF Basic 9 FBM BM-E
Old Satin Jack BIBB HOGFSH
OFF Duty Meaner Street
I think that might hold me over till I think of some more!
EMail if you have a spare 460!!!!

You gotta have an AK. That was my first Busse. I have a Yugoslavian AK-47 SECM (Serbian Ethnic Cleansing Model). I'm not sure what a Busse AK is. Is it a big ole knife? Edited: Wow, its sword! I would be even more dangerous, with such a divice.

Yes, that might raise an eyebrow or two. You might try this bowie. It's a Cherokee Rose from Himalayan Imports. I've found pretty knives gets people less excited and more interested.

I have my big choppers
Busse BM's E, FBM, SH, DF when it arrives
My Medium knives
Scrapper 6
My Small fix blade
Skeleton Key (Busse)
And my folders,
Different CRKT models.
Other than the folders, I did not mention my other knives, large to small as I just wanted to list my Busses.
Now I want a good axe. I think Gransfors Bruks.

I think a busse is best as a large blade. DF FBM it would be great to have a medium sized busse also. my smaller blades are blades with high edge retention, often stainless steel. Falkniven VG10 Laminated survival knife. AlMar sere S30V Fehrman cpm3v hiker Microtech S30V and other ats34 and 154cm blades.

Great knife!!! I have a Fehrman Final Judgment that I brought to Kenya along with my E-BM. I mainly used it as I used my E-BM the last time and my SHBM the time before that. That and I just recieved it. It performed really well. The cpm3v is actually carbon steel. I love all my knives and use everything. Sure I use more than others (Busse) but so far I have found that all suit my needs when here or abroad and each have their own strengths and weakneses. Somtimes when out hiking I prefer to carry my small Pukko (that sounds bad)or just a pocket knife. Somtimes I prefer the smaller, chubby blades because they can carve better and slice trail food better than my bigger blades. On Hoods Woods (Gravelface actually responded to the thread) there was a Scrap Yard thread where people were not bad mouthing the Busse line but called them over hyped. Then someone chimed in about their Mora being the best knife for everything, even a Busse. That is his opinion and for him that knife may work. For other people they may have something else. I like this forum because we do not bad mouth other knives as we all own many other company brands. I love my cold steels (the ones that I got years ago, the ones now have quality problems), I love my Fehrman.... But Busse the first Good knife company that I ever ordered from, all other knives/companies came after. Before that I had an $8 Yugoslovian knife given to my by my father when I was a boy. The typical, hollow handled, saw back thingy. Lord knows how it survived as I used to ram it into pennies and they would stick. Saw and baton wood and even use it when climbing by ramming it into the terrace walls on the river banks. If I knew then what I know now I wouldn't even cut bread with it. I remember it being 440c steel. I thought it was the best stuff around. I even still have it tho it has been retired. So in short... I guess my collection is an almost complete collection. But for me it is in fours plus an axe. Chopper, Mid, small fixed (SK) and folder. So far everything everyone has listed is a great knife. I guess that really none of our collections are complete. We will keep buying them until our money or our wives give out. Sorry for the loooong post. Today has been the Sh@#ttyst day of the past two whole weeks and these past two weeks were the worst!!! Hopefully next week will be better. Posting this was theraputic for me. I need 5:00 PM. Best to all, Dan

Bld522, I like your idea for a basic collection. Mine is first the basics
Dogfather: Big Bowie chopper Mischief 6: General purpose fighter Scrapyard SS4: EDC
If you are like me you will want special purpose knives here are some that while not Busse kin fit with the general hard use theme.
CRKT Sting: Boot Dagger CS Tru Flight: Thrower, back up
Sykes Fairbain Commando Knife : Murder weapon ,As the originals are very expensive and later wartime ones of dubious quality either a decent replica or the Applegate Fairbain made by Boker would be acceptable. For some reason no one has made a good version without trying to improve it and ending up screwing them up.
Spyderco Endura ZDP: Any good folder would do I picked the ZDP Endura as it will be my next folder purchase. If funds are an issue get the Byrd Flight G10 it will be the best 30 you ever spend(other than that czeck girls lap dance).
Busse Ruck: Home defence weapon ,I prefer a more traditional look so I have a cheness katana.
Gerber Sport: Multitool ,I will be replacing this with a Byrd tool when they come out.

Bld, I am with you on Spydercos...I have never found one I would carry because they are all so ugly! This is my opinion and I don't care how well they perform....I can't get past that giant hole in the blade and the overall design of them.
It's like driving one of those Scion Breadbox ( cars?) It may get great gas mileage and have the highest safety rating, but I can't get past the look of it.

I read sometime ago that Busse was going to come up with a folder or something. What ever happened to that? The project went to Swamp Rat and the knife became the Rat Trap. Wha'choo talkin' bout Willis??? Not sure where you got your info but no, the Rat Trap isnt a toss off project from Jerry. The Busse folder is a whole different animal, literally. At least my collection is never complete, its ever changing. I thought I was broke all the time before Swamp Rat came around, and now theres another wallet drainer!!

i was thinkin today that i'd trade most of my hardware for a single FBM. thus i was in the frame of mind to respond to the topic with "One." however, i read on a realized i'd need a finesse knife. the scrapyard ats34 shaker would have to round everything out. i'd need no more.

What models of Busse/Swamp Rat/Scrap Yard knives do you need to own in order to have a complete collection? Obviously, this answer will vary. But in my view, you need to have AT LEAST four knives to consider your collection complete:
1) A chopper, 9"-10" (e.g., Dog Father/Battle Rat/Battle Mistress) I have a bunch in this category - Battle Guard, Dog Father, and (while not technically in the family, more like a distant relative) a Ranger RD9. 2) A camp knife, 5"-7" (e.g., Scrapper 6/Camp Tramp) I have a Camp Tramp. WOuld definitely buy an S-7 if Scrapyard releases one. 3) A fat-bellied skinner/slicer, 3"-4" (e.g., Howling Rat) I have a howling Rat. 4) A thin-bellied skinner/slicer, 3"-4" (e.g., Street Scrapper 4/Bandicoot)
I have a Bandicoot and a Scrapper 4. And possibly a fighter, 6"-7" (e.g., Pure Bred Fighter/Satin Jack/Mini-Mojo). I don't think that's really necessary. Any of the above could be used for that purpose. And at least ONE of those knives has to be manufactured by Busse Combat.
I'd love to get a "real" Busse someday, but the Swamp Rats and Scrap Yards are more in my price range.

The Busse folder is a whole different animal, literally. Are you puttin' me on, Dwayne??? You mean to tell me that Busse Combat actually produced a folder and put it into production??? If they did, I must have missed it. Please post pics ASAP (other than this one, of course:) There are no pictures of the yet to be released Busse folder, but plenty of people have seen and held on of the prototypes. Its safe to say that the Rat Trap isnt even close and wasnt intended to be a replacement for the Busse Folder.

I figure a "complete collection" means either every knife ever made with any intrinsic value or a good knife for every likely use. So in my world right now that is;
small- SS4 medium- S6 (best user knife ever!) large- DF zombie attack- Tramontina Bolo curiosity- Wilkinson Sword CSK survival knife
I probably need a Busse at some point.. (anniversary SH maybe??)
