I just went out and batoned a piece of wood (about 2" in diamter) with the folder with the thinnest sharpes hollow ground edge I have. (thinner that the grips. edge) it's a slicer for sure. and it did fine. also once a small piece like that is already split you would know where the knots are and they would be obvious and things. obviously there wasn't any quarts of really substantial size, and if it was big enough to do that the the blade... WOW.
you don't see my point... at all. (and I guess I see yours, but it doesn't make sense for this scenario) keithere way, I would expect a folder like that (advertised and normally thought of as a good tough folder, that you would pay upwards of 70$ for) to easily stand up to that use, slicer or not.

kershaw blur. I've held tons of grips. in stores and inspected them (never bbought one though) and they had edges about this thin, maybe not quite as thin though.
basically, its an 80$ letter opener, if you ask me. I think a spyderco would be a better investment if you want a good slicer. the grip. is like a waste of the axis lock! such a strong mechanism, but you'd never use it hard enough to find its breaking point because the knife'd snap first!
I do like benchmades (from what I hear) I just think that maybe this particular model is kind of... idk.

I got my grip for $55 and its no letter opener By one and use it, they are great bangs for your buck.
Blurs have thicker grinds then the grip and are made of 440a which is chip resistant. I know because I OWN one.
I am kershaw crazy though, the blur is a good folder.

ooh dude! nice. and do benchmades have a lifetime warrenty?? idk, but either way, thats awesome. and I couldn't find one for 55$, but I on;y checked a few stores... never online.
and 440c chips pretty easily and is normally over hardened, I thought. but I'm wrong I guess. maybe it was like 440a? that I was thinking of. and mine is a different steel. although its still very chip resistent. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> doug ritteres are really nice aren't they? thats the knife that I was like "man, over 100$ and 440! yeah right!" over on knifetest and you guys spazzed? they must be pretty good...
