For those of you still waiting my DMDC arrived today. I really like the satin finish. It will be getting wet every day for five days in the middle of May. If the finish holds up to that (no rust) I'll be purchasing more satin finishes as/if the Yard makes them available. It will be wiped down at the end of every day with a Tuf-Cloth. While the knife is sharp, it is the dullest Scrap Yard factory edge I've seen. This will be easily corrected on my Sharpmaker and a few swipes on the leather strop.
Hang in there if your's hasn't shown up yet. They are are the way.
If you don't sharpen your axe from time to time, you will soon be chopping with a hammer.

Congrats on receiving the DM Jackell, and I hope you have a great time in the woods and water in May. I'm hoping my DM makes it in the mail later today.

congrats on your blade, I am in the second wave so Dan told us 4 to 6 weeks which is fine with me. Also, the DMDC is not a satin finish, it is a bead blasted finish and it is more prone to rust than just a plain satin finish. Nothing a little care and tuf cloth won't take care of though.

Thanks for the correction Silverbullets on the finish. Yes it should be more rust prone than a CG or LE finish. When I planned the May fishing trip (before Dan announced the DMDC) I was going to take the DMCG. There was a lot of discussion when Dan announced the knife about rust. I think I can put that question to rest by taking the DMDC on this trip. The DMDC will be in a jon boat for five days. It will get wet several times a day. It will wiped off a couple times a day with a dry rag. In the evenings it will be wiped down with a Tuf-Cloth. If the DMDC comes through this without developing any rust then I'll buy more as they are offered. If it doesn't then I'll go back to just buying CG knives.

My Mutts found their home today. Mail usually runs around 2:00, was 6:30 today. I guess Uncle Sam was playing with me. They are a very nice size and have found a home in the Spec Ops Combat Master sheaths I ordered last week. Hopefully those that have not received theirs yet will get them tomorrow.

I know it's been talked about, but do you guys think it really that necessary to use a Tuff Cloth. I have one and you guys have more experience with the steel than me.
By the way Congrats

Another question on the tuffcloth, is it non-toxic? Do any of you guys use them on food-prep blades?

Papahetfield, The DMDC is not stainless or coated. Like any other steel if left exposed to the elements it will rust. Stainless steel will even rust. I've had Stainless rust. It's very light and will wipe off with a rag but make no mistake it will rust.
You will need to use something on the DMDC after use. Especially in a humid enviroment. The Tuf-Cloth appears to be the best product for the job.
Just like you do preventive maintainence to your automobile or yard or firearms, it makes sense to also do so with these knives.
If you don't sharpen your axe from time to time, you will soon be chopping with a hammer.

I don't know how many of you are familiar with John Greco's knives. They're high carbon steel and were coated (with "Crib Safe" Lacquer) to prevent rust; I've read postings where people reported bad rusting issues when they sanded it off, much more so than I've heard of with uncoated SR77. I haven't tried it myself, but I dug up a couple old Archive postings from BladeForums: Greco blade coatingcrib safe were can I find it
