so essentially, the DMDC has no coating on it?? Bead blasting is like sand blasting with small glass BBs. It removes the tool marks and makes the steel consistently smooth with a flat matte appearance. IT IS NOT A COATING. A double cut finished surface is just blade steel. No epoxy coat, no bluing, no paint, no nothing. Nada. Zip. Zero. Keep it lightly oiled or use a product like a Tuff Cloth.

there is no coating on DC blades. there is no coating on LE blades. there is coating on CG and 'Urban' blades. it is up to you to oil or wax all your exposed carbon steel.

As a friend of mine in the construction trade would say, it's within builder's tolerance. As fellow carpenters used to say in the construction trade, “We’re not building a piano here.” I love Dan’s knives. But I shudder at the thought of what he would produce if he was building a piano. Dan, if you ever go into the business of making musical instruments, I vote for bongos.

why do u think they use bead blasting as opposed to putting a coating on the blade? any thoughts? Because a lot of buyers prefer it and are willing to pay the extra cost. It is a business after all, and it doesn't hurt the performance of the blade.
