How do I get a Scrap Yard knife?

The way Scrap Yard Works is as follows. Dan announces a new blade & then later on announces the release date. A batch of blades are manufactured and made available on the release date. Once they are sold out, we sit back and wait for the next release. Your best bet is to visit the forum once in a while to check and see when the next blade is due to be released. You want to be around at the release time as Scrap Yard blades have a history of selling out at a high rate of speed.

However it never hurts to check out the Scrap Yard store at http://shop.scrapyardknives.com/main.sc. You never know what you might find there! Plus you can score a bunch of schwag!

When is the next release?

2008 is off to a great start! First, the Yard Keeper was release in January and a batch of Dog Fathers was released in mid February. March brought us the Dumpster Mutt Double Cut. Time to wait and see what April brings!

Where can I get old models of knives

There is a busy secondary market. The two main options are the exchange forums over on www.bladeforums.com and the Busse Kin Exchange at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bussekinexchange/
Please keep in mind that NEITHER source is endorsed by Scrap Yard knives. Links are provided for your convenience only.

Welcome to the Yard, Maverick.

Getting a SYKCO blade is a bit like a good hunt, you must be watchful and patient. Once you've finally managed to score a blade, it will all be worth while.

Good luck with the hunt...it can be challenging, but greatly rewarding as well.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

I really do look forward to getting a hold of a few more Scrapyard Knives. I do have a Dumpster Mutt and a Yard Hook. Both are really nice knives and I wouldn't mind getting a couple more. I will definately check in here every once in a while to see whats going on.

It's like a hunt, alright. But when I go hunting, I know in advance when the hunting season starts and ends! LOL

BLD522/Rainwalker,

Thanks for the warm welcome and your valuable insight!

Andy Wayne,

From the picture of that broken CS Recon Scout stuck in the frozen stump, it looks like the little 7" blade was being asked to do a lot more than it was originally intended for. The knife could have been a lemon, but my gut feeling is that the knife was abused. i have a CS Carbon V Laredo and trailmaster and they both have been excellent blades. Even as tough as my CS Carbon V srk is, I probably wouldn't try to baton it on a frozen log in the dead of winter.

I wonder, if I tried to do the same thing with a scrapyard knife and the knife failed, would scrapyard replace it free of charge? Or would Dan call it abuse not covered by warranty?

Well, a survival knife should be able to do that with no problems. I’ve split wood hundreds of times with my Rats and Dogs. And they are much thinner than a RS, some only 3/16”. And a lot of it was firewood in the winter. I batoned frozen knotty hardwood logs for years with no problems. Some were so tough I beat the knife with all my strength on the last couple inches of the 10” blade, and it was so tough I had to back it out cause it wouldn’t go through. And I also batoned with the tip higher than the handle, which puts much more stress on the blade. I’ve never had any damage whatsoever to my Rats or Dogs.

Yes, if you batoned a frozen log and broke your knife, I have complete confidence that Dan would take care of it. You can use these knives to chop concrete blocks or cut through car doors without worrying about voiding the warranty. Even the res-c handles are covered under the warranty. If a 3/16” Howling Rat can cut the door off an SUV, then a ¼” knife should have no problems against wood. These knives are MADE for extreme use. Have you seen the knifetests S6 destruction test?

Just a question about how do you know when new Scrapyard knives will be coming out? Is it posted on this website?

I just missed the Dumpster Mutt DC and I don't want to miss the next new knife.

Thanks.

If you are deployed and you need a DMDC you can have one of mine at cost. They don't come with sheaths. I do live close to Leatherface if you want him to make you one. He does leather and kydex. I'll probably be taking some blades over there soon anyway.

Everybody seems to be hoping for either a 7"-8" chopper or a skeletonized EDC blade next. I have no idea if that actually influences Dan's decisions though, but he always pulls it off and gives us a great new blade.
