Instead of obsidian, why not practice with regular glass? I read an article in Backwoodsman where the author used the round bottoms of glass bottles to make points from. They looked pretty nice. Another article used old toilet porcelain. You can use nails for pressure flaking.

Around 1861 they ran the first telegraph line across the great plains and put the Pony Express out of business. The Indians soon discovered the glass insulators through which the telegraph line ran. They were great. Easy to find. Easy to knap. New blades on demand. Pilfered insulation became such a maintenance problem that Western Union took to putting piles of glass at the foot of the poles. As long as the Indians could find material for arrowheads without climbing for them, the insulators were safe.

honestly, it still all boils down to having a spoon.
Or, a cool spork. If A man ain't got a spork, he ain't got much.

I wanna add my $.02 too. I think bc is more controled, so if you fail you just loose your pride and stop by wendy's on the way home. Where as survival is different, many thinks have already failed or are missing (transportation, shelter, navagation, physical health and/or well being, equptiment, etc.) therefore you musty make good with what you got(knowlage enviroment, and tools) , and if you fail you are at greater risk of serous injury or death. bushcraft is more of a hobby, but can teach you an invauable set of skills that just may save your little backside on day.

I agree with Mr. Bond. Bushcraft is 'fun'. It is a pursuit that could aid you in a survival situation, but is actually an end in and of itself.
Sort of like target shooting. Many of us target shoot, but not all of us have gone or will go to war. My Wife will never see combat, but that does not keep her from owning, shooting, and mauintaining a pretty nice stable of firearms.

Bushcraft seems to be to be a fancy way of saying primitive camping and outdoors skills.

This, added to Mr. Bond's imput, adds up to maybe 3 1/2 cents, or 1,345,000,000 pesos.

Now, as to the spork.
The spork is the most versatile tool known to man. You can use it as a spoon, use it as a retarded fork, use it to hack things apart in a poor substitute for a knife.
It would make a pretty good weapon, if you were to fight, let's say, a blind chipmunk.
You can use it as a butter knife, to spread things.
In all honesty, in the last few long range trips I have made in civilization, I have used the spork more than any tool in my EDC bag.
I even bought Nikki one, made of some sort of magic plastic, that was called a 'foon'. That's right, not a spork, but a foon.

Ok roo, I will buy into your your spork doctrine, I have one of those lite-my-fire sporks, it is very handy, I do like it, it was our only fork or spoon for a day or too.

Some guy in my Econ class had the idea of a KNORK.

A knife, fork, spoon. It was rather interesting for the invention project.

I didn't come up with it. My invention was a Vertical Take off And Landing Variable Swift Wing Delta Wing Fighter Jet: codenamed the MP-1. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

KNORK eh? If you teacher frequented REI, they would know that that isnt a new idea heh heh. I'm thinking of picking up some new titanium utensils soon. I have plenty of backpacking pots and pans, as well as a Titanium mug, but thats about it

Have you hugged your camp knife today?
