It looks to me that any of these blades would serve as a very practical EDC or as a wilderness companion to a larger knife like the CT or RW. BTW, can anyone give the blade thickness of each?
The reason for all of this is that I'm looking for a knife to fill this niche...something along the lines of the HR or YK and I haven't seen either except in pics.
Can anyone attest to the usefullness of these blades? Where would you rank either compared to your other knives that you use regularly?

I would say they can take some rough use! i would want them, if paired with a bigger knife. like DFLE or something. JMHO though.
and vic has shown they can be pretty good slicers with a good edge on them!
so I think they can do some pretty big work (and if you DO use the right technique you can take down small trees with them, using a baton... although I find it tiring) and split some pretty big logs and stuff, and I guess you could do finer everyday cutting chores too.

And then, of course, there was Gravelface's favorite . . . the Howling Fat! The greatest there ever was!

I love the YKcg but it would be perfect made from SR101 with it's full flat grind. Were any of the Howlers flat ground?
I think the micarta handles make the howler look incredibly ugly.

Yeah, I agree Unsub...the Res-c Howler is a better looking piece.

I think the micarta handles make the howler look incredibly ugly. the howling fat has a full-height grind. i've also seen some 3/16" width howlers, although very few, that have a full-height grind.

![[Linked Image from i211.photobucket.com]](http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb28/bodhi1966/knifes/HRDSonwallNov07.jpg) Do you mean the bottom one, rare and a user. Actually both knives are users, the top one is the legendary dog skinner.
