someone wanted pics of the front side: I have one in black. At this time, I had it rigged up for a lefty draw because my RD7 was typically on my right side. Bit dirty from one of my trips to the gorge

[Linked Image from i231.photobucket.com]

mine has a large radio pouch that doubles as a utility pouch and it also holds a 32oz water bottle. The knife is obviously a Swamp Rat Ratmandu, in this case in Okuden kydex. I find that the rigs are superb for only $20. The leg straps have sticky rubber sewn in so they don't travel too much, and also a small portion of the bands are elastic, so as your thigh flexs it doesn't get too tight. Every attatchment point has a buckle, so you can get to off really fast. They can get hot on long hikes, but I've never become uncomfortable.

Where thay from, CTD?

I may get one, but honestly they are alittle mall ninjaish to me and a wee bit impractical.
Whon't stop me from trying it out though.

Simon,

It's made by Condor Industries. It's basically a budget line company for the military. They still make really good honest gear though. I suggest you try one of these.

But making one should definitely be fun and interesting to see. Hope you can get some pics up soon.

Mac,

The rigs are actually pretty darn useful. You can get a variety of pouches and attachments. I have a nimravus sheath, a spec op survival sheath, and a radio pouch on mine. It's been holding up really well and I like it.

Cloak did a great summary on it.

Get one.

I still like Cloaks theory that we are fundimentally the same but small differences lead to arguements.

I think we will beleave anything we tell each other though.

Most teen are like that.

They are fundamentally the same but have different opinions. Which is exactly why they are similar.

Yeah but look at all of us teens here, me and sharp may argue every once in awhile but we all have each others backs.

Hope we all get to go to blade in a few years, I know some of you better than my local friends.

Mac,

well put, i'm glad you like my theory

but as for you mall-ninja comment: yes, in some ways I agree. If you look in an REI, or even Cabela's catalog, you don't see people in thigh rigs. In fact, you don't see people in thigh rigs at all outside of the military. I guess thats because most people don't need to access their big gear any faster than the time it takes to remove your pack. I personally prefer the rig, despite the non-sheeple-friendly appearance, because of three main reasons

1. I've found that I can draw a drop-leg, kydex-sheathed knife faster and more comfortably than any other carry position.
2. Storing heavy gear like a flashlight in a thigh rig will flop around a lot less than if you have it in a traditional cargo pocket.
3. If you're hiking light, without a pack, they make at ideal place to store a water bottle, without the aforementioned flopping problems (see #2)

That said, If I was going on a hiking trip with people at my school, the thigh rig wouldn't come along. Because people have seen them only in a military context, it'd be roughly equivalent to me getting a crew cut, wearing full camo, and blousing my trousers in black leather jump boots. If you spend a lot of time wilderness hiking where you need quick access to a fixed blade, or you want a large water bottle without having to bring a pack, then a thigh rig might be very useful to you. If, on the other hand, you spend a lot time on trails that might be frequented by other people, or you frequently hike in the company of civies, then a small fanny pack or messenger back might be a better solution.

my...well, not 2 cents, more like

my buck-fifty

-Cloak

$18 is not much, but I still have to modify it.

I can still make my own so you all can laugh at me when it gets totaly screwed

You should try a modular vest, itīs excellent when fooling around in the wood and donīt want a backpack.

Got a blackhawk elite vest and itīs great. Pic of mine, sorry about the broken squirrel.

Have change the pouches and got a 3liter Reservoir on the back since the pic.

I woudn't think the thigh rig would be that confortable, especially if you have to run. But I haven't even tried one.

Simon-I like the vest.

I've been looking at the Maxpedition Saber cat Versi-pack . Not too cheap though
