lighthiker: Been thinking about using my runningshoes when hiking in the summer when itīs dry. What shoes do you have? Or suggestions?

Got Crispi Hunter HTG boots and they are great! This is the first time I got blisters using them. Normaly I have woolsocks but not this time, me so stupid

WhichDawg: I was carving a wooden sword for my nephew and the knife slipped and hit my finger.

Thnak a lot Simon for your suggestions. I like Kellam Knives, particularly model Wolverine. I'm just in doubt about Roselli also. I'm sorry for your finger, bad cut :-(

Simon, I would like to buy a Puukko knife: any suggestions besides the most common brands (Helle, Roselli etc.?). Regards.

I know I probably shouldn't suggest this, but you might try looking at Muskrat man knives. Really good puukkos using L6 steel.

Looked like a good hike. Your finger looks like something from Frankenstein.

Wichdawg & Simon I highly recommend the Merrill trail runners. Excellent traction especially with the vibram soles. They breate so much better that your feet don't sweat as much. Moisture is one of the main causes for blisters. Everything starts to move around. The other plus is the flexibility they offer your feet and ankles. If you wear a stiff boot it becomes hard to normaly flex your feet and ankles as if you were walking barefooted. When you restrict this natural motion especially when carrying a heavy load you end up with much more back pain and leg/calf stiffness soreness.

Another tip is to hit them with the waterproof spray you use on tents. The gortex ones are too expensive. The normal ones with some silicone waterproof spray repel water like you would not believe. It rained for two days straight on one hike. I was the only one with shoes and the only one with dry feet. After a while the hikers wearing boots just started to plod through the puddles. I happily skirted them.
