I think I already saw this mentioned somewhere, but there is a difference between hitting the side of the S6's rubber handle and hitting the side of the RD7's tang. The impact and shock that the RD7 suffered is worse than an equivalent blow to the S6's rubber handle. Not quite an equivalent demonstration of toughness on that test. Oh well. Both knives seem like they will take a beating, and I love my Yard knives as much as my Ranger knife!

there isn't much tang on the s6, and honestly I don't think he would have been able to break the s6 anyways...
I'm just on the last vid and noss does sometimes repeat stuff alot!
lol man...
burnt out from all the testing or what noss? (they would wear me out!)
I know he does alot of the tests late at night too, and I think he did this test the same day as the coldsteel kukri.

but anyways, I wasn't too dissapointed in the rd test.
I did expect it to go a little further though, but I guess I won't be standing on my rd9 anytime soon. (especially if I gain more weight!)

I thought it would do better than that.

I think the Ranger did well. Any knife that survives being beaten on with a sledge hammer and chopped through concrete block repeatedly is good to go in my book. The forces applied from a big dude bouncing up and down with his body weight on a knife tang are greater than anything I would need from a knife. Not surprising to me that a knife would break from these forces and I consider the Ranger knife to be more than adequate for my needs. Although I do prefer the res-c over micarta. The S6 rules and I am glad I got 2. Now my 2 boys can have one of the toughest knives on the block.

well said, J33psrOck, i think the ranger perform beyond anything you'd ever need a knife to do (realistically). I do which that noss had a test that included prying off larger chunks of wood than just with the tip. I find that with my thick knives, I use them to pry off hunks of fatwood and break up stumps, so I'd want my knives to be able to do that. Still, i don't think I'll be able to damage my ranger any time soon.

Have you hugged your camp knife today?

Noss said he made a short vid of some side tang impacts on the s6 without the handles.
<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
he said he got a few good blows, just to get the point across.

I found it interesting that Noss called it "BS" that people were saying that the handle on the S6 absorbed shock. If Noss is a physicist or engineer, then please correct me, but the force impulse of the hammer blow to the rubber handle of the S6 does does get absorbed to a certain degree! Why else would people like ResC so much for chopping?! I don't claim to be a genius or to know a lot, but I am an engineering student and know that some force from the hammer blow does get absorbed by the handle on the S6. Sure, the bare tang of the S6 "stood up" to the hammer blows, but to say it's "BS" that the handle absorbs some of the hammer blow is just incorrect.

dl351: Yes the handle absorbs shock. That was not what I was referring to. I was referring to the fact that it was not going to make any difference. With the handle on or off. I showed you this in the video. This is the way I read your post
and the one on KF. So now you have seen it both ways.

Thanks for clarifying. I am glad you beat on the S6 without the handle. Perhaps I am just too used to physics and engineering labs in school where we try to minimize sources of error. Oh, and for the record, I didn't post anything about the rubber handle on KF.
