If I just had the idea that I had to mod a DMCG, I'd strip it, put green duracoat on the Res-C, and maybe play with blending the grind line. I've never tried it but I'm pretty sure duracoat would be fine on Res-C.

Or I might even try a few overlapping layers of duracoat over the crinkle that would show through with wear.

I prefer res-c too.
I cannot imagine any Scrap yard model that I'd prefer with different scales.

If you wanted to put micarta on a yard knife the best way would be washer style like a SOG Trident bowie or good old Kabar Marine bowie. Scale style wouldn't work well unless you cut channels into the micarta to take the tang (don't make holes in the tang- too thin to stay strong!) then used metal bands top and bottom to secure the scales, or do it like Bark River and use lots of marine grade epoxy glue to keep the handle together! (Like their 1855 hunter construction).

You could make a great historic style custom if you fitted a brass finger guard, scale retainer ring/collar by the guard and bolted the scales together with one of those tube screws at the lanyard eye end.. It'd be a monster job though so good luck! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
