Hi everyone Im new here. My wife and kids just got me my first Scrap Yard knives for Father's day. I now own two Dumpster Mutts (one DC and one original)
Been lurking here for quite a while and thought I would post.

I have a question. I make my own kydex sheaths and I am wondering if the hot kydex can damage the Resiprene grip during the press? Anyone have experience with that? The Resiprene seems pretty hardy but I would be really upset if I melted the grip with hot kydex.

Anyways, Hello to everyone!

Welcome to the yard EH <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Made my kydexsheath for my DogFather and had no problem with the heat. Think it needs alot more heat to melt Res-c.

Res-C holds up pretty well with kydex making, I've been doing it for quite some time with no problems. You might want to add a layer of painters tape for a little added protection though. Also another suggestion, smooth and round the edge of the kydex that will be in contact with the Res-c. The hard sharp edge will occasionally leave a mark across the handle from the pressure, however it will usually smooth back out on it's own in a few hours.

Welcome!

About your kydex issue... it shouldn't affect the Res-C. Upon repairing a cut ini the Res-C, it'll take a lighter in close contact at least 10-15 seconds to melt and mend the cut. I don't think the kydex will get that hot.

Hope you stick around here! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Thanks so much guys. I didnt think it would hurt it but wanted to be sure. I dont think the Kydex gets nearly that hot. Ive been wanting a Mutt for a long time so Im really gun shy about messing them up.

Welcome to the Yard. Hot Kydex will not damage the res-c. What tends to jack up the res-c is if the inside edge of the kydex at the mouth of the sheath left sharp. I round off the inside lip of the kydex to prevent this.
