Hmmm. I still don't see an actual chopping comparison between the CT and YG. I guess I'll do it myself. The testing never ends!

Sorry... I was in a hurry and must have skimmed quickly over the "Chopping" request.

I have not used my YG too much. I have chopped a few small branches and some light pruning. No real work. Just enough to get a feel for it.

I have used my CT a pretty fair amount. But, I haven't done a Vic style chopping comparison. .... Never have.

I have taken my CT camping and on some trails. I rarely ever used it out on trails and quit carrying a large knife on the trails. Around camp, I have chopped a little bit of kindling, done some light batoning and similar fire "starter" type stuff, but I really just rarely find much need to chop.

Honestly, most of my firewood I tend to use I can pick up small stuff and use as starter, break limbs to burn size or end-burn or middle burn the large stuff.

I have used my Battle Rat out in my yard for some pruning, but more for fun than need. I don't have a yard like yours Vic - Just a 10,420 s/f lot with a handful of trees and a few shrubs. Enough for a little shade and decoration, but not too much maintenance.
When I do yard work, I find pruning tools, lopping shears, saws, and similar better for yard work.

But, in all the above few cases where I used my choppers, I never had my camera out.... Sorry. Apparently, I don't combine work and play enough.

I know I need to do that some day....

My "Chopper" collection is small relative to my other knives.

My chopper collection consists of:

Battle Rat
DFLE
Chopweiler
CT
YG

Other brands:

Bark River - Golok
Fallkniven - Thor - laminated VG10
Cold Steel - Trail Master - San Mai
Blackjack - Quick
Sog - Tigershark (old satin one)
Spyderco - Hossom - Woodlander (comparable to Camp Tramp in some ways)

So, about 11 out of well over 100 or so knives (many more sold).

Out of those 11, I really only use my Battle Rat, CT and sometimes Golok.
All of the others are VERY worthy. Just slightly trumped. So, they stay in the drawer.
The DFLE is almost interchangable with the Battle Rat. They are VERY similar. But, I had already put a good edge and use on my Battle Rat. So, it is a good user. DFLE is more of a back-up with my Battle Rat already in use.

For camping and hiking, I carry various 3.5" - 5.5" blades. Too many GREAT options to list. But, those are my favorite users with the most field, camping and trail type use.

We have talked about "real world" / daily street EDC. And I EDC folders. I prefer a good 3.5" - 5.5" fixed blade for use, but I don't justify a fixed blade for EDC / Street carry. Folders are pretty much just what work for me. So, I honestly use my folders WAY more than any other knife. Yet I am so picky about my folders, I only have about 10 - 15 and about 4-6 I actually carry and use. I have owned and sold many of folders that didn't make the cut as well.
Most of the ones I carry have been modified in some way.

I recently made mods to my Benchmade 710 and intend to grind the thumb ramp off my SERE 2000 soon so I can add it to my EDC rotation.

I have said before, chopping is more for fun than need (to me). I guess I don't have enough fun.

HD, looking forward to seeing the chop off! I'm in the market for a medium sized chopper.

KG, thanks again for the detailed info. I'll be keeping my eye out for the CT,

I have decided to include the Yard Hook as well. My Yard Guard has been heavily reprofiled but the Hook still has the coating on it. I already know the Chopweiler can chop better, but I don't yet have the Camp Tramp or Sarsquatch to compare it to. I eagerly await the contestants. Maybe in a week or so I'll have them all. Depends on the shipment from Canada. This will be fun.

For the record, I have used mine! I just didn't get a chance to snap any photos and have been too busy to write something up about it. I also gave one of my ASH1-LEs a workout the same night. The LEs are a great solution to those who are scared to wear off the finish...

As much as I LOVE my Camp Tramp I don't consider it a chopper. The Tramp is a wonderfully balanced and attractive general camp knife... maybe one of the all time best. You get a lot of knife out of a relatively light package. I have the same feeling about the S6.

I view my Tramp as a great generalist that "can" chop. The Chopweiler should outchop the Tramp by a good margin.

The SARq may surprise you as it is blade heavy and you can really "snap" the blade. I would guess that the SARq and the Chopweiler will be fairly close with the SARq having a slight edge.

Can't wait for the test!

I've got a Chopweiler and a SARsquatch myself and should be doing some chopping with them, so I can give my input, but I just don't have the time right now.
