Darn, KnifeGuy. Well that was my best excuse and justification. THe BRKT machetes are really expensive for machetes. I have always said that nothing beats a cheap machete for machete work. I just wanted a pretty one to hang on the wall. Or maybe impress my friends. I would like a Scrap Yard Golok, though.

Well, to be fair there are certain knives that are worth the price if you actually use them.
For the paces that I've put my FBM through, I definitely have to say it was worth it. I don't think a knife cheaper (and never a custom knife more expensive) would have stood up to just the "normal", not to mention fun , tasks that I do on weekends.

Again, no right or wrong just different opinions. Since you have plenty of beaters and use them so much, you have a higher appreciation for the finer details of a beater tool. You may very well appreciate the added details of a Bark River machete. But, the main differentiating "Functional" difference is the edge - and you in particular would put that same edge on your beaters. But, if you want a pretty one with a nice sheath or a wall-hanger .... there you go. I would be interested in a Scrap Yard Golok as well. But, based on comments from Dan, I wouldn't hold my breath for one. I have said before, I think "YOU" would be impressed by the Bark River Golok and not likely have any regrets in 1095. .

Well, to be fair there are certain knives that are worth the price if you actually use them. Well put.. I'd agree an INFI S6 or S7 would be worth pretty much any price to me.. I'd buy it as a user and use it. But carefully! To me digging in the dirt and machete work are best done with a cheap Tramontina machete. However a FBM, S6 or even better a DF are great for making digging sticks and chopping down trees! A really good edc is worth the money too- Mora's are very good but I'd still take my SS4 in preference. The blade strength is worth the money to me..

I actually dug a fire pit with my FBM.
There were some decently sized rocks that I constantly would hit. I accidentally even stabbed the knife into one. All I got was a minor roll about half a centimeter in length near the curvature of the edge. Nothing a ceramic rod couldn't fix.

Hmmmm.... Well "to be fair", use them a LOT or not, "worth the price" is a very relative statement. "Some" people seem to be a little more fortuitous in their financial situations and justifications - regardless of how. I realize that INFI is amazingly tough. But, I hope you realize how fortunate you are to be able to own $400 - $500 knives along with your other toys and then use them with little regard to cost - especially at your age. More power to you. But, perspectives, justifications, values, wants and needs all differ. Not everybody can be so casual about the use of their $100 - $200 knives... let alone $400 - $500 knives. Most people I know wouldn't be so casual about using a $40 knife as you do.... throwing them, jumping on them, digging and beating against rocks with them, etc. ... Again, more power to you. .

Perspectives, justifications, wants and needs all differ. +1. I'll also add that an individual's perspectives, justifications, wants and needs are nobody's business but theirs. What selfish capitalist nonsense. The State knows best what we need.

you would put A2 against sr 101? I thought sr 101 holds a great edge and was tough? I didn't even think A2 held that amazing of en edge and if it's not even as tough as 1095 I don't see it being an amazing knife steel. (even if it holds an edge well)
can you tell me what makes it so great? (not being smart BTW)
anuways, I think goloks are cool because you get the maximum chopping surface for the amount of blade. (since there is not point)
so I like the design and see it being very useful for all kinds of stuff.
for the BRKT golok specifically... it looks nice, it's a little pricey, (compared to something like a SY that is) but a nice design, decent steel and no doubt great geometry.
and I think it's safe to say what people want and what they are willing to pay is not something we can control or should try to. (i think it's been established though... I'm a little late)
I'd have no problem spending 300$ of my hard earned money on one knife. some may not want to spend over 100 because it's not worth it to them... whatever, thats fine. "to each his own"

These counter revolutionary thoughts are most upsetting to our leaders and party officials who labor night and day for our welfare. Not "to each his own", but, "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need", emf.

can you tell me what makes it so great? Yeah I do put SR101 up against A2. They are both two of my favorite knife steels. Both have excellent edge properties IMO, very good toughness and reasonable prices. From a little experience, I am very interested in playing with some more 3V. I owned two Fehrmans... long story. But, 3V is like A2 on steroids and starts to creep into INFI teritory. 3V is not as tough as INFI or SR-77, but has very good edge retention and gets viciously sharp. But, 3V is pretty expensive. Not INFI priced, but more expensive than most common knife steels. 1095 "can be" very tough and cheap, but it seems to much more reliant on good heat treatment for toughness. 1095 is simple steel, but it works. Unfortunately, it is one of the most rust prone steels for knives. It is not my favorite steel. But, it is really hard to bad-mouth it either. "A-2 - An excellent air-hardening tool steel, it is known for its great toughness and good edge holding. . . . Its outstanding toughness makes it a frequent choice for combat knives. Chris Reeve and Phil Hartsfield both use A-2, and Blackjack made a few models from A-2." Source: http://www.knifeart.com/steelfaqbyjo.html +1... all that and more. Also, the fact the Jerry's steel of choice prior to INFI was mostly A2. A2 is not the toughest steel out there. It is not INFI. But, it has a great combination of properties. I have used it a lot and I like it for my uses. .
