I can't help but think that a kukri would win the outright chopping battle. But, when the 'overall' features are considered, a big bowie is hard to overrule.

I don't know if my kukris would win. I don't have any huge ones. The FFBM will likely win the bowie chop-off, and it might just beat my kukris. And some of those heavy machetes are pretty good choppers, too. My Special Forces Golok is a chopping beast. I realize that all these knives have their strong points, but in just straight chopping, I don't know which would win.

All I have is a Cold Steel Gurkha, CS MTC, and an old Gurkha Regimental standard issue 12" kukri. No really nice H.I.s or anything fancy. I don't think I can do anything but the bowies and final chop-off on this forum, since SY doesn't make any goloks, kukris, or machetes. This chop-off idea would be done in phases, with the winners in each category going to the final. I'd like to confine the test as much as possible to commonly available models. No customs or rare models. There is always a possibility that some knives might be damaged, too. I have been known to break things.

The CS Magnum Kukri is a machete. I gave mine to my brother in law. As good as it is, I have some others that will out chop it, including the CS Bolo and Panga machetes. How big and heavy is the HI? And no, I won't be doing hawks or axes.

I handled one at a hardware store and decided not to buy it. They have a good reputation.
