Price of Hellrazor when they were the production knife $287+ Comp G was advertised as a more economical version of former production knives + Comp Hellrazor price of $287 = killed my interest. I would have really liked to have one.

As you know, it's most likely not going to get cheaper now.

Actually, from what I recall of Jerry's post about Competition blades, they were not intended to be less expensive. The issue was that they were fully convexed, and doing that tended to mar the coating, so the purpose was to trade the coating for a better edge. I remember him saying that the reasons he was asking if people were interested was because people were asking for un-coated blades, but that due to the additional labor on the edge, they would cost as much as if they were coated.

As to the HR price; I didn't get in when they were first released, but I paid $342 each for military overruns (admittedly, they had mag G10 handles) at the 12/2007 Razorganza.

If I remember correctly, the magnum scales normally cost an additional $35.00. I can tell you one thing for sure, the HellRazor is SHARP!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> I barely brushed against the blade while reaching for some RenWax and gave myself an unexpected "discussion point"!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

I hope it didn't make too big a discussion point! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Those Comp Grade blades are sharp!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />

I've really had to watch my Jack Hammer to keep from making any discussion points myself. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Fortunately it was a very thin cut, and I keep a small first-aid kit on my table just for such possibilities. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> I hope I got the Jackhammer, as I expect it to be just as sharp! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I don't have experience sharpening that way, but as I understand it, convex sharpening is done (industrially) with a slack belt sander, rolling from near vertical. I'd guess that it tends to make the transition between the side to the beginning of the edge grind a bit inconsistent. Horn Dog has more experience, so could provide a more definitive answer. I bought a low-speed belt sander (+ leather strop belts and compound to fit it) specifically marketed for knife sharpening, but I never set it up -- it's still in the unopened box in my garage. The only fully-convexed knives I can recall seeing had polished blades; that doesn't mean there aren't any coated ones, but none come to mind.

Yes, well aware. Just venting a little frustration. Should have bought a Hellrazor new 2 years ago.
