IMHO, the attributes of a "fighting knife" are not mutually exclusive with the attributes of a good utility knife.
I found that even the one-dimensional, tanto edged folder that I have been EDC'ing the past several weeks has been exceptional at everyday task both in the field and at home.
I am not in the service nor in law enforcement, yet my requirements for a reliable folder often lead me to look at knives that were designed with those purposes in mind. While not specifically looking for a "fighting knife", when I look for a robust, easily opened lock and a durable edge geometry, I often find myself looking at one.

Kmar, I have NO evidence to support this, but I think that MOST manufacturers get the "Fighting Knife" thing wrong. A fghting knife in my opinion is one that should excell in cutting flesh and perhaps clothing items and nothing else. In that Vein I think it should have a very thin, rather delicate edge. I personall think that MOST of the companies that advertise their product as "a FIGHTING KNIFE" are trying to cash in on a trend/fad, fear. What they are presenting many times is a TOUGH, strong and sturdy "Combat Knife" if you will. Something that we would probably call a good strong sturdy EDC blade.
This is just MY take on this. No animals were harmed in the thought process required to produce this post.

I'll have you know a squirrel is used because it is a renewable resource as opposed to rubber bands which require energy and raw material to manufacture. A squirrel can just eat what he finds up there, which on my part shouldn't take long to consume! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
