It depends on how you plan to use the knife, both very similar knives with big differences.

From what I hear, the RMD is another variant of the DMCG.

DMCG:
SR-77, thicker, shorter res-c handles, penetrator tip, and hidden tang.

RMD:
SR-101, thinner, larger micarta handles, and full tang.

Just based on the differences, the RMD would cut better and hold an edge longer. It might rust a little easier too.

The thick profile and sabre grind doesn't make the DMCG the best slicer, but the thing is a tank and nothing Ban can't fix.

Nice testing and comparisons, Pit! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

It would be interesting seeing what a difference it would make if the RMD were thrown into the mix as well. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I did talk to pitman a while ago about about the DMCG and he said he didn't like the handles, which is why he wrapped it, but I find the handles perfect. It is small so if you got bear sized hands, you might want to look into the RMD. I forget to mention price as well, you could find a DMCG for about $110 vs. $200 for the RMD.

Both are excellent knives! I ended up with the DMCG, because the price was right, handles fit perfect, and the thing is indestructible.

Oh and I really like the balance of the DMCG. The balance point is right by the finger guard, so if I'm doing stuff like chopping, the extra front weight helps. If I shift my hands forward and grip the choil, it balances perfectly for finer tasks.

After seeing this thread and spent the last hour reading more about Koster knives, the nessmuks are starting to really grow on me. I might order one with green canvas micarta in 1095. His pikals look cool too.

Although pitman didn't include the RMD in this comparison, I think he would agree that it is one of the best, if not the best, of all the mid-sized knives.I have a drawer full of midsized knives, and the RMD is without a doubt my favorite all-arounder, with the DMDC right behind it. In the 4" size, my SS4 rules. In the 6", it's the S6. Just my opinions based on personal use and experience. I'm sure the Koster is very nice, but I wouldn't give up my RMD for one.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Which do you think is the better knife Pitman the Ratmandu or the DM?

I hate to say it on this forum but IMO the RMD is far better than the DM. Once you hold a RMD you will see why, it just feels perfect !
I have made fuzz sticks with the RMD before and it would have placed a close second behind the Nessie.
I have said it many times before but if I could only keep one knife it would be my RMD !!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Mr Pink, Why green micarta? Here is one in your color. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

chickenplucker, haha, is that yours? It's really nice. I'm still trying to decide on the grind, my favorite looking one is the full flat, and probably the easiest one for me to maintain.

stalker, the DMCG are awesome, I love mine so much. Those Busse Basic handles are getting rarer too. I don't have the funds for a 2nd, but if I did I would get another and save it until it became really rare.

kansas, 2 places you can get them. http://www.kosterknives.com and http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=813
