Well, I didn't get the AK like I hoped, but it's going to a good friend, Tiny, who loves the AK as much as I do, so I'll still have the opportunity to play with it.
Unsub did recommend a second alternative company that specializes in Japaneses swords, Cheness. They seem to be the best in the $200-$300 price and perform better then some more expensive swords.
The model I'm looking at is the Tenchi Ko Katana, shorter blade then a full Katana with 2 handed grip (like the AK).

It sports a through hardened 9260 spring steel, which is soft (similar to SR-77). At $200 shipped it doesn't seem bad and all the reviews have given it good rating. It seems like slicing bottles and bamboo carpets is pretty effortless, and there are a few videos of it taking hits at a metal barrel and pole. It won't perform as well as INFI or SR-77 so I'm afraid of taking it to the chopping block. We'll see.
