I was in my 50th hour of sharpening when I had an almost religious experience where I realized that
polishing and sharpening where the exact same thing but on different parts of the blade. It hot me that you remove just the tiniest amount of steel to make the knife's real potential visible just like Michelangelo did with marble.

Hmmm, what do you mean? Could you clarify on that?

When you polish a blade you are removing a tiny amount of steel with abrasives in order to make it perfectly flat. When you want to polish out a scratch you have to remove material until the entire rest of the steel is as low as the deepest part of the scratch.

When you sharpen a edge you remove metal with abrasives in order to make the dents and deformation go away and leave a clean sharp edge.

Underneath a tiny bit of metal of a beat up dull rusty old knife is a shiny polished sharp one.

I want to make my old user SH-E look like the one Ban modded that just sold on the BF exchange.

Michelangelo used to say he did not create statues instead he simply removed all the parts that were not a statue from a chunk of marble.

I swear when I get a knife especially a beat up coated one I can see the parts I want to remove and the knife underneath.

Sharpening and Polishing are the same thing. Polishing is simply removing material at a much smaller scale. Michelangelo is a true artist Underneath every CG knife is a beauty queen ready to be unleashed I think of reworked CG knives as highly tuned pieces of equipment

Ban does a far better job than I do Face but I will admit I do a decent job of describing the process.

The winters are really long and cold thats for sure. It is a good idea to have some projects and my SH-E is definitely going to get my full attention.

I've thinned out the edges on pretty much all of my smaller knives.

That HC looks like a nice edc candidate...how do you like it compared to the SS4?

The HC is better looking and easier to conceal and makes for a better EDC. The SS4 is a perfect work knife is tougher and has a sightly more comfortable handle.
The HC is a bit heavy for it's size but not to bad. I would wear my SS4 if I have my pack or I was going out in the bush with only one knife.

I am looking forward to having a matching leather sheath for my HC so it can piggyback on my DFLE sheath. I was looking for the right companion knife for a while and think the HC is perfect. The colour scheme is my favourite, shiny black and shiny steel. The materials are perfect ,Res C handles on the big knife and black G10 on the small. The steel is exactly right as well with S7 for the big hard use knife and CPM154 with more edge retention and rust resistance on the smaller blade.

I had a sharp-a-thon yesterday. I finally got around to putting a convex edge on my British Golok. It came out wicked!

I bet it will out chop my BRKT golok now.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Horn Dog, I bet it will out chop most anything....that looks to be a Daddy of an edge...how did you do it? Takes me ages removing stock like that with stones...even rough diamond stones....did you use a belt grinder?

I really rate our Golok when a good edge is applied but if only you could order them heat treated properly so you can keep it!

I liked your BOLOS idea and note you have a liking for a good chopping knife. I have the same trait and have been looking for the "Ideal" chopper for some time.

Here is a link to a custom knife maker over here...Mick Wardell...
http://www.wardellscustomknives.moonfruit.com/ his Wildebeest Parang has a custom heat treatment and I think it would be about the best "chopper" on the market. The only down side is the wait ( a year or more probably ).....a bit like SYK's...but a Bolo Scrapper.....well that would be something....

Wow nice edge! How thick are those things. It looks to be a pretty hefty golok. I have a few valiant goloks that are only about 3/16 or so thick with narrow blades.

I am looking to make a 2 handed chopper that will destroy 2X4s in 3 chops Well at least that is the plan
