Bruce - I suppose it's just a matter of personal preference, but for a fighter I would pick the Tali-Whacker over the Satin Jack (I have a Desert Jack).

Andy.. you're brave too! must have some nice snakeskin on the wall though! Andy, I read about your rattlesnake trophy story.....pretty fascinating stuff! ...all i can say is...you are a Brave Man Andy! Or stupid, it depends on who you ask. I did that back when I had insurance, I wouldn’t try it now with no health insurance. The skin is on my wall, but it doesn’t look as nice as the skins I bought at the rattlesnake roundup. I didn’t want to have to buy a commerical tanning solution, so I tried a method that I read on the net. It said after you skin and flesh it, to tack it to a board and paint some antifreeze on the flesh side and let it dry in the shade. When it dried, you were supposed to give it a few more coats. I did this and it did preserve the skin, but it’s still pretty stiff, and it looks kinda faded. I still have his head, heart, and rattle in a jar of alcohol on my bookcase in my room.

Yeah, I was happy that I scored an SS4 while on vacation in Florida. Now, if we can just get Dan to produce a Yard Tali-Whacker..................

Jerr that was my lonely vote up there for the S-3,I still think for selfish reasons that a small blade would be great for the next item up for bids. Easy to carry, sheep friendly and will do any EDC chore with ease. The style of the Coot is sweet. I like the handle. I hope it's a three incher and next! I'd buy one for each of my sons and my wife as well! Perfect for every day carry. Did I mention that? Too much aluminum in Moms cookware while I was growing up. Peace.

If you find yourself needing to tan another snakeskin hide, try tacking it to a board and then coating the flesh side with salt. Let it cure, then rub the salt off and coat the skin with glycerin. P.S.- Why keep the rattle in an alcohol solution?

I came across that pic recently and thought it would make a good avatar pic. One of the younger (age 7 - 1987) pics of me with a knife in it. That was taken at a local park. *gasp* children with knives running around a public park! Protect the children! Now-a-days someone would probably call the cops on ya. My girls hate the end of each Summer. They have to stop carrying their knives when they go back to school in the 'hood (where they might need them).
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I came across that pic recently and thought it would make a good avatar pic . . . I like your new handle, Victor. Nice touch . . . HORN DOG! LMAO!!! Thats the thing about nicknames, bld522. They stick better if others give them to you. It inspired me to go out this morning and baton with the Dog Father. The Horn Dog is bonding with his Dog Father by beating him on the spine with a big oak stick!

Thanks everybody for the welcomes, I killed the snakes pretty much like Andy did, I have a 5 foot wrecking bar (thou I could have used a branch by cutting one down) I used to hold the head down and pin the snake, then I went for the head first and after that it was easy money. And tony22r, yes I work on the Space Shuttle for many years and I'm about ready to retire out of this field, it's been a good run and the program is slowly getting ready to switch back to the old Apollo era spacecraft, and they want need as many of us out there. There were several metals I had been intrigued by that we have and one was a modified version of Inconel and also carbon carbon. I had to take out a 4 inch bolt one day that the nut plate broke off and it gets torqued to 200000 ft lbs + or - 1000 lbs. (You use a gear multiplier and a 10 foot torque wrench with strain gauges bonded on the bolt) . Anyway I used everything from diamond bits, carbide and cobalt and it wouldn't touch this bolt. (Trying to drill the head)What ended up working is grinding on the head with a small air grinder for 3 shifts and 3 days before I could get the arrow head off. Anyway some of the bolts and material we have are extremely hard that it would be awesome in a knife. I've worked with beryllium, titanium, inconel, kevlar, carbon carbon (the toughfest material I've encountered), tungsten (second favorite),boron, and the list goes on. Chapter 2 of this long book story That's what impressed me with Dan and the Bussie knives, Very rarely do you find any manufacture that listens to his customers and continuously makes improvements and puts out in my opinion one of the best knives around. I know it takes time to make knives with the heat treatment, grinding, etc.., sometimes I wish we could order a particular knife that you want and when it gets finished then it is sent. For example: say it takes 4 weeks to make a dogfather and you make 100, what if you took 100 orders every 4 weeks for different knives and made them to the order, would you gain or lose ground? Anyway, the product is awesome and if it takes waiting, then so be it. If a system works and it isn't broke, don't fix it. Anyway, sorry about the long post and thanks for letting me post.
Everything is possible and failure is not an option.
