So I decided to skip the CustomGanzaaaaa and dropped $550.00 on BlackBerry Curve 8310 + extended battery w/ door + rubberized case + screen protector. Had I held off for the GO button to appear, I might have picked up a blade I really did not want all that badly.

Oooookay, Blackberry. I don't even own a cell phone, let alone that fancy gadget! LOL!

I bet the Blackberry is to enable constant access to the Bladeforum Exchange ....so that could prove expensive! Still if the bargains are snapped up....it might pay for itself .....in knife collector logic!

If I wanted to trade up for a phone which could also store and use ballistic programmes and could be used/charged with a hands free car system or similar what would be a good choice?

I reckon I will be using the last of the savings before any release.....although the knife I want is a DFLE and I doubt any of these are on the list....although a SY Kukri/Bolo would surpass the DFLE perhaps?

I bought my BlackJack phone used for $100. It's paid for itself many times over. I have the unlimited data plan, so whenever I have time to kill waiting in line, stuck in a traffic jam, etc. I can get on the forums. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> I have a foldable cordless bluetooth keyboard for it than expands to a laptop size keyboard. That makes typing much easier for lengthy posts. It was less than $50 on eBay.

Sounds real Gucci kit there Andy....we have some hi-tech stuff in the Services...but the manufacturers take the prices into the stratosphere....I suppose it is the robust aspect of the laptops/sat-phone models which cost so much. Ironically most of the guys on the ground go for their own kit as far as phones which carry iPAQ ability....you are more conversant with these and can use them better...certainly for ballistic programmes...although the Sat phone is a great asset.

The thing is you need to be "techi" conversant to pick up these things on E-bay etc....I would probably end up with an incompatible key board for the phone I had! lol..I think I will probably do the cop out thing and go for a phone package where I get an Apple i-phone or whatever supplied with the line rental...the "pay through the nose" package....

Anyway....don't want to go off topic here...is it not usual to have some form of "sit-rep" as to where things are on the release front from Dan when people are asking what's going to happen and when?

It's not hard. Here's the one I have: iGo Stowaway. It's like $125 at Best Buy, but I got mine for under $50 on eBay. It works with any bluetooth phone or device.

Be careful if you get a pay as you use it plan for the net. I've heard of people not keeping track and racking up bills for thousands of dollars in a month.
