Wiseguy! LOL! You get the general idea of what I'm saying; every kitchen needs a large utility knife. The dogfather could be your outdoors/indoors knife that could be used for larger kitchen needs.

Yes, I could probably live with just three. In fact I really don't use more than a few anyway. I'd could probably go with my SAK outrider, RMD or Mountaineer II and my Chopweiler. Throw in my trusty titanium spork and I'd be a happy man.

Oh tha Horror!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />

Just 3!!! Just thinking about it gives me shivers! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I'm sure I could though, but I'd never be able to choose just three... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sad.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/paperbag.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Yes, I know what you mean. As I pondered this I felt I was either letting down the other knives I had in terms of their ability to merit a place....or rapidly coming to the conclusion I probably had waaaay too many knives ??????

I also figured that once I had put some others into the pot such as a Leatherman and SAK and a good folder....I probably really only DID need 5 or 6.

So what should you do? Well....you need back ups....so that covers off 12...BUT THEN DOES THAT MEAN ..you need to start selling!!!!!

Anyway, I avoided the issue nicely when I realised.....I am a collector!

I bet Horn Dog must dread a post like this.....sorted out 3 and then considering what the other 100 or so are needed for? LOL...

How about a different 3 every day! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

That way we can rotate the whole lot. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Three knives? A machete, a Ratmandu, and a Swiss Army.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

when you consider some of the foods like squash, turnip, pineapple, watermelon, coconut, etc. that you'd use a meat cleaver on (not to mention overly large cuts of wild game meat), a DFLE as a kitchen knife/chopper/cleaver doesn't seem so ridiculous. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

I have this great mental image of a person with a watermelon. They carefully feel its size and weight, turning it over in their hands, observing the skin. They set it down just so on the cutting board and take their Dogfather in hand. Closing their eyes and breathing deeply, then relax into stillness and THWACK! Two perfectly cut watermelon halves wobble to a stop.

(more realistically it'd go SPLAT! and there'd be juice and pulp in a 10 foot radius, but...)

When tackling a water melon recently one of my relatives went straight for my Tramontina Bolo- instant halved melon and grooved chopping block... It was very sharp for a change! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" />
